New Delhi

Magsaysay Award recipient and climate activist Sonam Wangchuk is on the tenth day of his indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar today, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET paper leak issue and the subsequent suicides of some aspirants.

About fourteen students and youth activists are also participating in the hunger strike with him. One of them, AISO activist Danish Ali, was hospitalised two days ago.

Doctors attending to Wangchuk said his health condition deteriorated on Monday. His blood pressure has dropped and he has lost six kg of weight during the protest. His sugar levels have also risen considerably. The IITian and globally known climate change activist appeared visibly weak and frail during the strike.

The protesters are demanding accountability from the Education Ministry in the wake of alleged NEET paper leaks and the distress among aspirants. Security has been tightened at Jantar Mantar as the demonstration continues.
