Blast in Okhla Phase-1: One dead, 4 injured as oxygen cylinder explodes

One person was killed and four others injured after an industrial oxygen cylinder exploded at a godown in Delhi’s Okhla Phase-1 on Wednesday morning.
– A truck from Ghaziabad brought commercial oxygen cylinders to SM Traders godown at D-23, near Community Hall, Okhla Phase-1.
– While workers were unloading, one cylinder fell from the vehicle onto the road and exploded around 10:43 – 10:45 am.
The blast was so powerful that it shattered glass windows of nearby buildings.
– PCR call was received at Okhla Industrial Area PS at 10:45 am, Fire call at 11:55 am. 3-4 fire tenders and CATS ambulances were rushed.
Deceased: Mohit Singh, 35, helper working with SM Traders for last 3 years. Resident of Jaitpur / Jaipur originally.
Injured: Umesh, Arvind, Manoj and Pankaj – all rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre.
Police registered FIR under Section 106(1) BNS (causing death by negligence) and detained the godown owner for questioning. The premises was being run as a rented godown for 1-2 years for trading and local distribution of industrial oxygen / medical oxygen cylinders. Around 70-80 cylinders handled daily.
Police, forensic and technical teams are examining the vehicle, cylinder fragments and checking the firm’s licences for storage, handling and transportation of cylinders.
