AFTER BAJRANG PUNIA, GOLD MEDALLIST OF CW and ASIAN GAMES VINESH PHOGAT ALSO RETURNS HER KHEL RATNA AND ARJUNA AWARDS

After the Rio Olympics 2016 Bronze medal winner in Wrestling Bajrang Punia, returning his prestigious Award Padmashree, the renowned wrestler having won gold medals in Commonwealth and, Asian Games has followed suit on Saturday by returning the Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna and Arjuna Awards at Kartvyapath when she was stopped by the police while going towards the prime minister residence to return back her awards in protest. It may be recalled that the sports ministry has already revoked the recognition of the WFI recently thus also holding the elections of WFI null and void. The women wrestlers in particular apart from men wrestlers also are returning their awards after the election of the business partner and protege of MP and former WFI chairman Brijmohan Sharan Singh, Sanjay Singh as president. Earlier several women wrestlers had levelled serious charges of sexual assault and mental harrasment against the former chairman and, MP Brijbhushan Sharon Singh who was, elected incessantly for 12 years. After the ongoing protest by the wrestlers returning their awards, the national chief of BJP had summoned the former WFI president Brijbhushan Sharan Singh directing him to remain away from ongoing wrestlers controversy. Brijbhushan later on declared that he is quitting wrestling and concentrating on his constituency in view of the nearing general elections. On the other hand the newly elected president of WFI Sanjay Singh is approaching the Court against the decision of union Sports ministry to revoke the recognition of WFI.
