In Uttarakhand  people are usually complaining about the jeopardising health services including non availability of health centres, dispensaries or hospitals with adequate medical care and doctors including surgeons.

Though Uttarakhand as a separate state had come into existence twenty six years ago but the problems and complications related to health and medical treatment , quality education and job opportunities continued unabatedly rather than multiplied phenomenally.

Among these three complexities and absence of the adequate avenues, the health sector has suffered the most resulting in massive migration to internal towns, state capital , plains in the state and in metropolises.

The exodus is in several lakhs which is further multiplying. While the locals in Uttarakhand are migrating to other states for jobs, education and health related adequate facilities , the outsiders from other states especially the minority population has phenomenally increased by forty one percent in plains of the state and overall thirty percent ( during the past one decade) which is adversely affecting the demography of the state which also include buying of large tracts of lands by the outsiders making their black money white, building massive number if resorts in riversides including hotels.

Unfortunately , in Uttarakhand the health sector is so badly in a  jeopardising state  that cases of deaths of the pregnant women are also on the rise.

In view of the non availability of health centres or maternity wards including hospitals at the decentralised levels and several villages devoid of the roads the pregnant woman have to be brought in make shift temporary stretchers on shoulders by men and women till the approach roads covering several kilometres distance on foot and then in the  ambulance, of they are available . There have been several instances of the pregnant women dying on the way, or delivering babies on the way or profusely bleeding becoming anaemic.

Hundreds of deaths of pregnant women or delivering Babies on the way have taken place but the government has not taken any concrete step to set right the situation.

The ambulances hardly reach in time or are medically unequipped with no doctors or attendents etc.

Today unfortunately , in Tharali, Karnaprayag, another woman died due to the health department’s poor arrangements. The family has leveled serious allegations against the hospital. A pregnant woman, who was referred to the hospital, died on the way to the hospital in a 108 ambulance. The family has accused the doctors of negligence in treatment and failing to refer to her on time. A post-mortem examination of the woman’s body is underway.
An official investigation and response from the Health Department is awaited. May God grant peace to the departed soul and grant him a place at His feet.

Om Shanti Om
