In Uttar Pradesh 40% Congress tickets would be accorded to women, announces Priyanka Gandhi
The Congress general secretary, in charge of Uttar Pradesh Congress affairs has announced that 40% Congress tickets would be accorded to women in the ensuing Uttar Pradesh elections as she want to empower them fully.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi catagorically said that women need to be brought to the fore in politics in order to abolish castism and inequality to make our society free from the clutches of castism and inequality.
This is necessary to bring the women at the forefront in order to get rid of caste n inequality leading towards a “Samtamulak samaj” ( society with equality) where women can stand up at par with men.
If the country needs to come out of the clutches of caste and religion oriented politics to make our politics equality oriented then women will have to come forward asserted Priyanka Gandhi.
Addressing the press conference Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said that I being the in charge of Uttar Pradesh Congress has decided to allot 40% tickets to women in the ensuing legislative elections.
If the participation of women will enhance in Uttar Pradesh their participation in politics will simultaneously increase at the pan India level, this being the largest state said Priyanka Gandhi.
Regarding ticket distribution to women of other states Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said that they can approach her with their resumes and she will help them on the basis of their chances to win.
She added that giving tickets to 40% women is indeed a historic decision and Congress has taken a lead in it as women are bravely struggling and fighting on the streets and they are the one who can actually change the fate of the nation by virtue of their “SEWA BHAAV”. ( service, commitment, dedication and perseverance) emphasised Congress leader Priyanka.
Emphasizing on the women unity and empowerment Priyanka said that women are not able to unify themselves to become a force to reckon with and are divided on caste lines.
My thinking is that women should contest elections above the caste and state barriers said Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi.
Adding that she should have given tickets to 50% of women had she been having her fullest say but being the UP incharge she has taken this historic decision and and the process of empowering women community has commenced.
The women will come forward and get tickets. They will contest and win and will gradually become strong she asserted.
On the question whether she will contest from Uttar Pradesh, Priyanka replied she hasn’t taken any decision on this but her basic objective is to empower women community.
Regarding her election she will take decision as it’s still too early added Priyanka.
Regarding the future CM of Uttar Pradesh she said there is no secret or strategy behind giving tickets to 40% women. The CM will be decided later on. My basic aim is to strengthen those who are a vulnerable lot, not able to raise voice for justice. I want to start a new type of politics. Congress has given a new slogan ” ladki hoon, main lad sakti hoon”, ( Am a girl, can fight) said Priyanka Gandhi.
