Attempt allegedly made on life of Congress MP Pappu Yadav during press conference in Delhi, attacker nabbed

New Delhi: Panic and confusion broke out at the residence of six-term Member of Parliament and Congress leader Pappu Yadav on Sunday after an alleged attempt was made on his life while he was holding a press conference.
According to officials, a man was apprehended by police on the spot. It is alleged that the accused was carrying a knife at the time of the incident.
As news of the attack spread, Yadav’s enraged supporters gathered at the residence and thrashed the alleged attacker. Police personnel present at the spot intervened to control the situation and tried to ensure that no untoward incident took place, while also protecting the accused from the angry crowd.
The attacker has been taken into custody and is being questioned to ascertain his motive. Senior police officers reached the spot and security at the MP’s residence has been stepped up.
The incident comes three days after Pappu Yadav staged a protest along with other INDIA bloc MPs at the Parliament House precincts. The MPs had worn saffron cloths during the demonstration on the “Chanda Chori” issue. The protest reportedly angered members of the sadhu community, who staged a dharna outside Yadav’s bungalow in protest.
Pappu Yadav, a Congress MP, has represented his constituency six times in the Lok Sabha. No injuries to the MP were reported in the incident.
Police said a case has been registered and further investigation is underway to determine whether the attack was linked to the recent protest.
