Consumers availing piped gas connection facility will have to surrender the old LPG connections and no refilling permitted, government prohibits such consumers to avail LPG cylinder facility

In view of the shortage of LPG in the country though several claims have been made by our Prime minister in Parliament not to worry about, including the union petroleum minister Hardeep Puri assuring that there is no gas shortage as the government has increased the LPG production by 28% , the ministry of petroleum and Natural Gas has issued a fresh notification prohibiting the use of Gas cylinders by those consumers in the country who are the customer of the gas pipelines and using the supplied gas.

The Centre has catagorically said in the prohibitory order that those consumers with Piped Natural Gas connection are not allowed to retain or avail domestic LPG connections / cylinders facility.

It has been witnessed that those who don’t have gas connections buy them in black from certain sources and there are also cases of the piped connection users allegedly retaining the domestic LPG and selling them in black market or obliging others who don’t have domestic gas connections.

In order to cope with the shortage of Gas cylinder problem in view of the ongoing war in West Asia and the problem at the strait of Harmoz, though India has been allowed to move its oil tankers loaded ships from here, the gas shortage situation still persists and it is in view of this scarcity that the government is constrained to issue these prohibitory orders.

The order of Ministry of Petroleum and natural gas states that this is known as liquified Petroleum Gas ( Regulation of Supply and Distribution ) Amendment order 2026 and is applicable with immediate effect . Under this order : No person having a Piped Natural Gas connection and also having domestic LPG connection shall retain a domestic LPG connection, or take refills of domestic LPG cylinders from any Government oil company, or through their distributors. Such persons will be required to immediately surrender their domestic LPG connection.

(6) No person having a Piped Natural Gas connection, shall obtain a domestic LPG connection, or take refills of domestic LPG cylinders from any Government oil company, or through their distributors. This order needs to be implemented and adhered to strictly.
