The CPI( M) lok Sabha member of parliament from Sikar parliamentary constituency, Rajasthan Mr. Amra Ram alongwith the CPI( M) state leaders who had gone to Jodhpur jail to meet the prestigious Megsaysay Award recipient and globally famed environmentalist Sonam Wangchuk lodged there since the last few days was not allowed to meet him.
The MP was surprised and shocked saying that he fails to understand over this police action as he is an elected people representative a law abiding citizen and not a terrorist.
Amra Ram is representing Sikar as its 18 th Lok Sabha member of Parliament.
There were tremendous police force outside the Jodhpur jail with police barricades fixed there with no one being allowed to meet Sonam Wangchuk.
He had earlier submitted a request through email to the jail authorities but his appeal was rejected with a note that as per rules your request is denied.
Infuriated Amra Ram, CPI ( M) MP from Sikar, Rajasthan while speaking to media said that Wangchuk is not a terrorist but a renowned environmentalist. He said that not allowing him to meet Wangchuk is arbitrary.
He strongly condemned the use of force by the police on the protestors and demanded unambiguity from the government when and under what circumstances will he and others be allowed to meet Wangchuk.
Both the senior police officers and the jail authorities were silent on this issue not allowing the CPM MP Amra Ram meet Sonam Wangchuk except a one line reply that it’s not allowed under law.
It may be recalled that the Ladakh activist of world fame fighting on environmental issues of Ladakh was arrested after violence erupted in Leh few days ago while he and his associates were in hunger strike on the demands of statehood and bringing Leh Ladakh under the jurisdiction of 6 th schedule, the assurance given by the government in their menifesto reveal the news reports.
Several political activists like Prashant Bhushan and former psephologist , farmers leader Dr. Yogendra Yadav had held a press conference condemning Wangchuk’s arrest and demanding his immediate release.
Wangchuk has been arrested under draconian NSA amd several charges leveled against him over FCRA violations cancelling it against his NGO.
Wangchuk’s wife Gitanjali Wangchuk too held press conference the other day at Press Club and challenged gher husband’s arrest terming it totally arbitrary saying that all their actions and activities are legal and they have sufficient credible evidences to prove everything.
She took head on the challenge saying that they have nothing to hide and have already faced the scrutiny of the IT and CBI and come scot free. She said that she will take on the challenge and shall fight the case to the last hiring the best lawyers and with full courage standing rock solid with her husband who is lodged in Jodhpur prison, where she took has not been allowed to meet him.
