The way Uttarakhand’s youth is boiling with immense frustration and anger against the saffron party ruling political dispensation it seems that in the 2027 state assembly elections the party may prove to be disastrous in terms of results. The present government of the Himalayan state of Uttarakhand today is on the verge of losing its credibility despite it playing every card right from excavating the Mazaars , to demolishing them in hundreds to implementing uniform civil code and always ensuring that polarisation in the name of majoritarianism is kept alive to exploit the sentiments of the majority community using Ram Temple issue keeping it alive and other religion centric issues.
Though Uttarakhand has been ruled by two political parties alternatively from the year 2000 till date with ten chief ministers on the power saddle but it’s for the first time that the BJP returned to power in 2022 for the second term incessantly, thus breaking the myth of alternative party governments coming to power after every Assrmbly elections.
Today the socio political and economic condition of Uttarakhand is in utter jeopardy and doldrums and the present chief minister, though youthful and stooge of the former CM and Maharshtra governor Bhagat Singh Koshiyari has not proved to be effective, successful and pro people rather a failure.
Since the rule of the former chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat from 2022 followed by the rule of Pushkar Singh Dhami , the BJP government has earned the tag of a government of scams with alleged corruption taking the front seat,choppers crashes on the rise and maneater attacks including road accidents numbers during tremendously.
The Ankita Bhandari brutal murder case and two time cheating and recruitment scam in UKSSSC have infact brought the BJP government of the state on a defensive mode with thousands of youths, women, students and even senior citizens unitedly coming on the roads to protest cumulatively demanding the CBI probe and the resignation of the government in power as not only did the present CM didn’t honoured the cumulative voice of the angered people of the state who elected him and his government to recommend for CBI probe but allegedly preferred protecting the VIP in Ankita Bhandari case and the cheating mafias who were the BJP leaders and registered members of the saffron party during the commissioning of the crimes.
The involvement of the BJP woman leader of Haridwar in forcing her daughter in alleged prostitution now behind bar has also shaken the credibility and trust of the BJP among the women community in the state.
Today as before during the tenure of the then CM Trivendra Singh Rawat, thousands of students and youths are on the streets and roads in Dehradun and their respected township, holding massive protest demonstrations, candle marches and dharnas against open selling of examination papers at Rs. 15 lakhs for Patwari exams etc.
Several videos showing people holding placards and shouting that one can now become patwari by paying Rs 15 lakhs from now onwards, making mockery of the BJP government are going viral in social media.
Hundreds of youths slept on the roadside the whole night in protest and girls sitting on dharna registering their protest against open and arbitrary cheating against huge sum of money in UKSSSC.
Though the chief minister has formed a high power committee in this regard and constituted a probe committee to be chaired by the retired judge , the infuriated students and youths are not satisfied. Though the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has been doing his best to set right the situation in the state whether dealing with the rehabilitation and resurrection efforts to provide relief to the ecological catastrophe hit people and leaving no stone unturned to stringently punish the guilty of the cheating scam, the situation seems to have been going out of control.
Uttarakhand has run into tremendous deficit of more than 70000 crores with expansion of liquor sales in the entire state on massive scale considering it the main course of generating income for the state forgetting that this widespread network of liquor in the state is literally playing with the future, career and families of Uttarakhand with people and younger elements becoming liquor addicts.
There have also been several instances of liquor mafia delivering liquor inside distant villages through motor cycles and other sources of deliveries.
Apart from this, the youths are badly disenchanted due to existing massive unemployment in the state and majority of the land sold to outsiders including land mafia active in entire state with corruption allegedly ruling the roost.
The main opposition party Congress , regional party of Uttarakhand Uttarakhand Kranti Dal and the other socio.political outfits like the Uttarakhand Swabhiman Sena and Uttarakhand Berojgaar Sangh are up in the arms against the government.
The ruling political party government’s one of the minister’s anti Pahadee statement inside the Assembly that led to his resignation and the irresponsible statement by the state BJP chief Mahendra Bhatt pronouncing the movement activists of Gairsain as the Sadak chaap netas had added fuel to fire.
Not only this but the massive scale ecological disaster in Uttarakhand during the ongoing monsoons and the government proving a failure despite doing its best including 1500 landslides in Badrinath Kedarnath Chardham Yatra route has also led people to express their anger as more than eighty people have died at Tharali and Dharali and several others during landslides and stones falling from the top of the mountains including massive overflooding and cloud bursts leading to several houses in villages completely damaged and people buried underneath.
Conclusively , the socio political, economic and law and order situation in Uttarakhand is extremely worrisome, in doldrums and jeopardy and the political future for the saffron party seems bleak. It’s indeed a wake up call for the BJP in Uttarakhand which warrants entire overhaul in the organisation and the government, if it really wants to keep itself geared up up for positive outcome in the 2027 elections.
