The general secretary , Incharge of the Communication Department of All India Congress Committee and former union minister , extremely vociferous Jairam Ramesh has come down heavily on the BJP led NDA government issuing a one and a half page hard hitting statement levelling several serious charges like unbridled hate speech and crack down on civil liberties, Tax terrorism and Intimidation of businesses and institutions, rampant misuse of investigative agencies, major control over the media, allegedly damaging judiciary, destroying central state relations, eroding autonomy of the constitutional bodies , weakening parliament and seeking mandate for changing the constitution.
The Congress leader catagorically emphasised that during the last eleven years of the saffron party rule the Indian democracy had been under a systematic and dangerous five fold assault that can be best described as undeclared emergency said Jairam Ramesh in his hard hitting statement.
Talking about the deteriorating media freedom and unprecedented pressure on journalists Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said the owners of the media houses print or electronics are pressured to hire/ employ the ruling political dispensation friendly journalists and the tax payer funded state broadcasters have been reduced to trolling the opposition and pushing divisive narratives.
The Congress leader said that the killers of Mahatma Gandhi have been glorified and the issue of electoral bonds in which the ruling party received Rs. 8000 crores as “Chandaa” has been kept in cold storage with opposition leaders being harrased and victimized through the investigative agencies.
Levelling the charge on BJP about weakening parliament the Congress leader said that the parliamentary norms were consistently shredded by the ruling party and opposition MPs who voiced their dissent and raised issues in parliament vociferously were suspended for several days thus snatching their constitutional rights to express freely in parliament on the issues of public significance.
He also accused CAG for becoming irrelevant and further charged the Election Commission also for losing its credibility and transparency as the poll timings and phases are allegedly tailored to suit the interest of the ruling saffron party.
Jairam Ramesh also charged the ruling party for interfering in the judiciary and selectively implementing the collegium recommendations.
