Heat waves claim five lives in the national capital with power demand being 8647 Megawatt, the highest

While the heat waves all over India have been tremendous with people working outside, especially labourers in building construction and stray animals dying surreptitiously with news of casualties due to excessive heat hardly coming out, in Delhi according to the government figures five people have reportedly died in various hospitals after being admitted due to falling ill due to the impact of heat waves. This is for the very first time in the history of Delhi that the peak power demand has tremendously risen to 8647 megawatt in the national capital. What is most worrisome to note is the fact that even hill stations like Lansdowne and Pauri Garhwal situated at quite a height of 17865 metres the temperature has fine up to 32 to 35 degrees celcius during the day and Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand crossing 43.1 degree celcius with Kotdwar recording 42 to 46 degree celcius. Una in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu recorded 44.6 and 44.3 degree celcius respectively with the coldest and most sought after hill station Nainital ( Jeolikot) too recording a surged 36.3. While excessive air conditioners, Vehicles in abundance emitting excessive gases including massive cutting of trees and non plantations in lieu of the cutted trees including excessive building of concrete jungles etc are the prime reasons for the excessive heat being experienced all over the country with people and stray animals dying and majority of deaths not being reported. Majority of the Delhi localities are badly suffering from acute water shortage including the population living in hills n metropolises as the ground water levels are ferociously depleting and water conservation techniques are not being encouraged on massive scale nor plantations done at the pan India level. The excessive heat waves are impacting the fear psychosis among people leading to massive accidents, suicidal tendencies and even deaths due to dehydration. According to a latest news the relentless heat waves have claimed five lives during the past 72 hours with victims dying in three hospitals of Delhi due to heat strokes, though the unreported figure may definitely up. A fifty year old man admitted in Safdarjung hospital on June 17 th evening breathed his last early morning while a sixty year old woman admitted the same day died in Tuesday morning. Similarly, a forty year old labourer and a sixty year old security guard suffering from acute heat strokes died in Ram Manohar Lohia hospital with the doctors treating them becoming a mere spectators. In another painful incident a motor mechanic suffering from excessive heat generated a fever of 106 degrees Fahrenheit and died on June 15 at Lok Nayak hospital hailing from Janakpuri. The national capital Delhi has never witnessed such a peak demand of 8647 Megawatt which was just 2800 megawatt two decades ago.

Across India, the health ministry has recorded 24,849 suspected heatstroke cases and 56 deaths between March and May 31 this year. The actual number may be higher. To take the case of Bihar alone. Local media reports from Bihar pointed to 60 deaths in a span of 24 hours on May 30.
