Former Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia denied bail by New Delhi Sessions Court

The former deputy chief minister of Delhi who is currently incarcerated in Tihar Jail since the last 247 days in connection with the liquor scam related to new excise policy of Delhi government has been denied bail in the District Sessions Court Rouse Avenue today. The court has reserved its order for 30 April. The denial of bail to Manish Sisodia is yet another jolt to AAP and the former deputy CM who has requested for the bail in view of his wife’s extremely bad health. While denying the bail to the former deputy CM of Delhi Manish Sisodia the judge of Rouse Avenue District Sessions Court Kaveri Baveja has categorically said that since he has been considered as a master mind of the liquor scam related to the Delhi government ‘s new excise policy now revoked, he can, if released affect the witnesses of the case.

Earlier to this the AAP leader Sisodia had also applied for the bail in view of the ongoing elections for propaganda but had taken it back.

It may be recalled that Manish Sisodia had applied for bail in Delhi High Court as well as Supreme Court but the bail was always denied on the grounds that there were sufficient evidence against him in the case n he being its mastermind.

However, the petition filed in trial court in March 2024 is still pending.

The CBI counsel has strongly opposed the bail plea of Manish Sisodia saying that since he is the alleged main culprit in this case he will influence the witnesses if released on bail. If he is given bail at this stage his purpose will be met.

Not only this, but he has also been denied bail from Supreme Court and High Court earlier and they have already said that he is the mastermind of the case said the CBI counsel.

However, Sisodia’s counsel resisted on this saying that this case is held up since february and bail should be given.

It may be recalled that the two judge bench of Sanjeev Khanna and SVN Bhatti has denied bail to Manish earlier on the ground that there had been alleged transaction of Rs 338 crores in which the role of the former deputy CM seems to be suspicious. Therefore the bail application is quashed had said the bench then while denying him the bail.

In High Court too earlier Manish Sisodia had asked for bail on the grounds of his wife being ill. The court has given him permission to meet his wife from 10 to 5.00 PM but strictly restricted him to meet the media. But he couldn’t meet his wife as she was admitted in a hospital as her condition deteriorated.

Manish Sisodia was arrested on Money laundering charges connected to the new excise policy related liquor scam on 26 February 2023 and had not got any relief till yet. Prior to this the Rouse Avenue District session court had extended his custody till 26 April.
