Progressive farmer Gopal Dutt Upreti honored with “Plant Genome Patron” award by Her Excellency President Smt. Draupadi Murmu for developing a new variety of coriander plant (species GS-1999)

“Global symposium on farmers’ rights” is being organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India in Pusa, New Delhi from today. This symposium was inaugurated by the President of India, Her Excellency Draupadi Murmu.
Farmers and renowned agricultural scientists from 150 countries around the world are participating in this seminar. This international seminar is being organized for the first time in India in the interests of farmers.

In the same program, progressive farmer Gopal Dutt Upreti of Uttarakhand was honored with the “Plant Genome Patron” award by Her Excellency President Mrs. Draupadi Murmu for developing a new variety of coriander plant (species GS-1999).

The President honored a total of 22 progressive farmers of the country for their remarkable contribution in the agriculture sector, Gopal Upreti, a farmer living in Ranikhet in Almora district, was honored by the Guinness Book of World Records for his distinguished contribution in the agriculture sector, Udyan Pandit, Agriculture by the Government of Uttarakhand. He has also been honored with special awards like Bhushan, Innovative Farmer Award, Pragatisheel Krishak Samman.

On this occasion, Dr. Shiv Shantanu Singh, the facilitator and principal scientist of Almora Krishi Vigyan Kendra, who was present with Gopal Upreti, said that Gopal Upreti has brought pride to the state of Uttarakhand and its farmers, by getting this award for working in the heterogeneous geographical area of ​​Uttarakhand. Farmers will get inspiration.

This farmers seminar will run from 12th September to 15th September, in which the President awarded farmers have set up stalls and exhibited their specific works and products which are being appreciated by agricultural experts from India and abroad. On this occasion, Union Agriculture Minister Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, Minister of State for Agriculture Shri Kailash Chaudhary, Agriculture Secretary, Government of India Shri Manoj Ahuja, Director General ICAR Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Dr. T Mahapatra etc. dignitaries were present.
