Rahul Gandhi arrested and given bail in a criminal defamation case in Gujarat court ! Accorded rousing welcome at Delhi Airport!

The former Congress president andWaynad MP Rahul Gandhi who’d successfully completed his 3750 kilometre pan India Bharat Jodi Yatra covering almost all the states of the country, from Kanyakumari to Kashmir – enticing tremendous tumultuous welcome from cross section of the society, was today convicted by Surat district court and sentenced to two years imprisonment but got bail immediately in a criminal defamation case filed against him by a Gujarat BJP MLA Purnesh Modi. Congress MP Rahul Gandhi was convicted under section 500 of the Indian Penal Code that has the provision of two years imprisonment but was accorded thirty days bail forth with on the MP’s, please who was physically present in the Surat Court.

The court has given Rahul Gandhi thirty days time sufficient enough to file his petition in the higher court to seek legal relief, especially saving himself getting rid of his membership of parliament say legal analysts.

Kindly recall that the Congress leader and scion of Nehru Gandhi family Rahul Gandhi had during the 2019 general elections while campaigning in South Indian state of Karnataka has used highly derogatory language irking the BJP leaders and an MLA from Gujarat namely Purnesh Modi filing defamatory case in a Gujarat district court in which Rahul Gandhi was sentenced to two year imprisonment but got bail simultaneously for a month today.

During his speech in a rally st Karnataka in 2019 enthusiastic Rahul Gandhi asked the crowd : How come all thieves, have Modi Surname?

This derogatory remarks literally angered and irked the BJP leaders in Gujarat and elsewhere in the country inviting a criminal defamation case in the country.

Meanwhile, the senior advocate of Supreme Court and Congress leader and spokesman Abhishekh Manu Singhvi who fights most of the cases of Congress and Nehru family said the Congress party has full faith in judiciary and will seek legal recourse to the verdict delivered by Surat court which may be erroneous but we find enough scope to seek justice as corrective measures in higher courts and, we will certainly overcome them.

According to TOI senior advocate Singhvi said this government is clearly relying, if in Parliament one set of techniques to throttle voices, and if outside Parliament a, second set of tactics which in recent times had an effect inside Parliament too. The third strategy of the government is to ” file” False, frivolous, and vexatious cases to throttle voices, he said.

After Rahul reached Delhi he was accorded a rousing welcome at the Airport with several leaders and MPs welcoming him with slogans hailing him and also presenting bouquets and garlanding him. The cavalcade followed him to his house at Tuglak Crescent where a great meeting was held too.

Meanwhile the Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejrival in his tweet in Hindi wrote : A conspiracy is being hatched to finish the opposition leaders and parties by lodging cases against the non BJP leaders and parties. We have differences with Congress but it is not correct to trap Rahul Gandhiji in a criminal defamation case. The work of the people and opposition is to ask questions. We honour the judiciary but this verdict is unacceptable tweeted Delhi CM Arvind Kejrival.

The Congress party in its tweet in Hindi wrote : All know : Rahul Gandhiji is loudly raising his voice against dictatorship. He is showing his courage to say wrong to wrong. The dictator is fearful due to his courage and is busy in threatening through ED sometimes , sometimes through police, Sometimes through false cases and sometimes via fear of giving imprisonment. Rahul Gandhiji will file a justice oriented appeal in the court of law. We will fight and win for sure said the Congress’s tweet.

Through a tweet Congress leader quoting Mahatma Gandhi wrote : My religion is based on truth and non violence. Truth is my God and non violence the medium to achieve it tweeted former Congress chief Mr. Gandhi.

It may be recalled that any elected representatives of sentenced for any offence for two years or more is liable for immediate disqualification under the Representation of People’s Act. However, in the Waynad MP’s case after being convicted the court has given him thirty days time for relief allowing him to appeal in higher court for relief failing which he faces consequences of disqualification for sure.
