Enraged displaced residents of Joshimath to hold regular protest dharna from 17 th January and to lock NTPC project office on 26 th January
The badly furious and angered residents majority of whom have been displaced and are on the verge of displacement after more than 700 houses has developed cracks due to rapid subsidence of Joshimath, gateway to historic Badrinath temple, Auli skiing circuit, valley of flowers and Hemkunt Sahib Gurudwara etc, have decided to stage regular protest dharna and subsequently locking it from 17 th January. This, cumulative decision was taken on 15 th January in a meeting attended by the annoyed women n men, residents of Joshimath addressed by their leader and chief of Joshimath Bachao Sangharsh Samittee Atul Sati as the disenchantment and anger among the residents of the hilly township is mounting up badly. Every day hundreds of angered men, women, youths and children are congregating at Joshimath and chalking out their strategies to seek justice raising slogans against the administration and the state government for not coming true to their expectation.
According to the decision taken the protestors of every ward will stage a protest demonstration cum Dharna in front if Joshimath Tension demanding complete stoppage of work on the project including the work of Helang Marwadi Road construction which are the main projects that have led to the subsidence of Joshimath say the furious residents.
Every day residents of different wards will state protest dharna ward wise n finally on 26 th January they will put the lock at the main entrance of the NTPC project site reveal Atul Sati, the leader of the Joshimath Bachao Sangharsh Samittee.
Accusing and holding Tapovan, Vishnugad hydropower project directly responsible for the present ecological impasse in Joshimath leading to massive subsidence n cracks in more than 700 houses rapidly widening further, the angered residents of Joshimath demanded rehabilitation and resettlement of them on the lines of THEM evacuees further demanding that the central government take the cudgels in its hands to adequately compensate the affected persons n families financially as well as in kind. They demanded that the NTPC should bear the entire losses and fulfil the demands of the affected people and their families forthwith.
