Former CM Ukhand and Haridwar MP strongly condemns the police action against journalist Hem Bhatt, terms it unfortunate and writes a letter to police chief expressing his anger

The former chief minister of Uttarakhand and Lok Sabha MP from Haridwar Trivendra Singh Rawat is the only MP who, though in BJP is usually extremely vociferous in speaking against his own government on genuine issues transparently, irrespective of the political consequences.

Former Uttarakhand CM and Haridwar MP Trivendra Singh has in the past raised the issue of massive illegal mining in the Lok Sabha and also spoke in front of media strongly condemning the rampant mining in Uttarakhand posing direct challenge to the already fragile environment and the rivers including the wastage of tax payers money.

Today Trivendra Singh Rawat came down heavily against the police administration of Uttarakhand for arbitrarily arresting a senior journalist Hem Bhatt terming this incident as most unfortunate and an attempt by the Dehradun police to denigrate the image of the government.

Speaking to media Trivendra Singh Rawat said that while he has written a strong letter to the police chief and also spoken expressing my anger as to what illegal act they have committed by picking a senior innocent journalist , he said that there is no point in victimising an innocent credible journalist like Hem Bhatt without any concrete evidence, or official search warrant.

He said that there was only one policeman in uniform and rest six were in civil dress giving the appearance of the goons as narrated by the family.

Haridwar MP Rawat who was extremely annoyed over this attitude of Uttarakhand police said that media is the four important pillar of democracy which need to be protected.

The police is not meant to harrass innocent journalists and denigrate the image of the government rather they are meant to raise the prestige of the government.

Rawat said that after going through the statement of Hem Bhatt when he was released I found him to be a gentleman journalist and his undue mental torture including that if his family is highly condemnable. Such acts should never happen again.

He said I am fully in support of journalist Hem Bhatt and am always forth coming to help him outrightly. Trivendra Singh Rawat’s statement expressing his solidarity with journalist Hem Bhatt is being appreciated by entire journalist fraternity of Uttarakhand.

I foundly remember when a year ago a yiu tuber journalist was thrashed by a liquor mafia of Rishikesh , then too Trivendra Singh Rawat was the sole BJP MP rmto go to the hospital ( AIIMS Rishikesh) and expressed his solidarity to the attacked jiurbakysf assuring him of his full support.
