Yet another heartwrenching tragedy in Pauri Garhwal, a woman dies after maneater attacked her

Pauri, Uttarakhand | 27 June 2026, Saturday
A woman was killed in a leopard attack on Saturday morning in Gram Sabha Banasi Talli, Patti Bijalot, under Nainidanda Development Block in Pauri Garhwal district.
According to villagers, the incident took place around 10:00–11:00 AM. Two women from the village, Shanti Devi and Sushila Devi, had gone to the upper part of the village to collect grass. A leopard suddenly attacked and dragged away Sushila Devi.
Shanti Devi raised an alarm and villagers rushed to the spot, but by the time they arrived, Sushila Devi could not be saved.
Panic has gripped the area following the attack. Locals have urged the Forest Department to immediately increase patrolling, set up cages/traps, and provide compensation to the bereaved family.
Leopard sightings and attacks often rise in Uttarakhand’s hills ahead of the monsoon as wildlife moves closer to human settlements. Forest officials have reportedly left for the spot to investigate.
The Forest Department advises residents not to go to forests or fields alone, avoid taking children, and immediately inform the local forest office or helpline if leopard activity is spotted.
Deepest condolences to the family.
