VETERAN JOURNALIST R. P. NAINWAL BREATHES HIS LAST AT A GURUGRAM HOSPITAL. RIP
A veteran journalist, gentleman to the core, an affable person, down to earth human being R. P. Nainwal breathed his last in a hospital in Gurugram today sending shock waves among the journalist fraternity in Uttarakhand, Delhi, Gujarat, his family, friends and near and dear ones. Mr. Nainwal died of cardiac arrest.
A thorough gentleman, introvert kind of a person R. P. Nainwal carried tremendous credibility among his journalist friends who served in Times of India for several years.
Several media organisations including the chief minister of Uttarakhand have expressed anguish and deepest condolences over his sudden demise.
Despite being a journalist of tall stature R. P. Nainwal has always been at the forefront to raise the grievances and demands regarding the pensions, social security and other issues of free lance journalists and stingers/ staffers working in towns and cities.
He always used to be at the forefront as their outspoken well wisher putting forth the issues of journalists.
Mr. R. P. Nainwal having a chequered career as an English journalist for several decades he was among selective journalists having carved a niche for himself due to his hard work , dedication and commitment making a special place and stature in English journalism among journalists of Uttarakhand.
Nainwal got the first break in Times of India when he joined the Ahmedabad TOI as the sub editor, there after being promoted as its chief sub. He joined the Jaipur edition of TOI in 1988 being promoted as its editor. In 1992-93 he joined the TOI Delhi edition as its special correspondent, Dehradun finally retiring after several years, this being his last assignment. He was extremely active, extensively covering the Uttarakhand movement finally retiring and there after joining the Deccan Herald and Garhwal post constantly scribbling for both the newspapers of repute.
His elder sister is the wife of former CM of Uttarakhand Major General retired B. C. Khanduri.
Father of two daughters he was staying with one of his daughters in Gurugram these days.
The chief minister P. S. Dhami, the Information commissioner of Uttarakhand Bansi Dhar Tiwari and, Press Club of India’s former president, sr journalist Umakant Lakhera has expressed their deepest condolences on the shocking demise of veteran journalist R. P. Nainwal saying that his loss has created a huge vacuum in journalism difficult to be fulfilled.
The immeasurable contribution of Mr. Nainwal in Uttarakhand by giving maximum coverage to the movement in English media during the separate Uttarakhand movement phase is being lauded tremendously. Uttarakhand’s media and intellectual fraternity will greatly miss the absence of a gentleman journalist of repute Nainwal forever said Sunil Negi, president of Uttarakhand Journalists Forum and editor of UKNationnews.
