Uttarakhand CM will have to become MLA by 10 th Sept. Eying on Gangotri seat

The Uttarakhand chief minister Tirath Singh Rawat will have to contest twice for being an MLA from any seat of his choice, first before 10 th September, the six month deadline which is expiring on this date and thereafter in the next assembly election slated for 2022, most probably in the initial months.

AThis makes his political journey arduous as the chief minister for hardly a year and that too during Covid 19 challenging times when the state has witnessed about 3.5 lakh cases of dreaded pandemic with about 6.700 pandemic fatalities.

According to the latest feedback the chief minister Tirath Singh Rawat has to become victorious as a lawmaker latest by 10 th September.

This obviously means that he will have to work hard n campaign extensively to ensure his victory though being the sitting chief minister his chances still seem to be bright despite various challenges of anti incumbency factor.

However, till now six sitting lawmakers of BJP have already offered their seats to the incumbent chief minister Tirath Singh Rawat with the cabinet minister of forests n environment of Uttarakhand Harak Singh Rawat offering to resign from Kotdwar to pave the way for the CM on the very day he took oath for the highest office of the hilly state.

Apart from Harak Singh Rawat the Yamkeshwar lawmaker n daughter of former CM, Uttarakhand Ritu Khanduri had also offered her seat of Yamkeshwar to Tirath Singh Rawat followed by the Badrinath MLA Mahendra Bhatt and Lansdowne MLA Dilip Rawat.

The MLA from Dharampura Vinod Chamoli and an independent lawmaker from Bhimtal had also offered their respective seats to CM Rawat, but he hadn’t responded to any of the upper offers.

It is believed that he is weighing various other options. If the latest reports are to be relied upon the chief minister Tirath Singh Rawat finds the Gangotri seat most safe as it has become vacant after the sad demise of its sitting MLA Gopal Rawat.

Now, it remains to be seen as to which seat will be chosen by CM Rawat out of the seven offers given to him since the day he assumed office of the chief minister.

According to reliable sources Rawat is relying more on the Gangotri seat that got vacant after the death of Gopal Rawat as the chief minister had been to this constituency earlier during his Uttar kashi visit. It may be recalled that the cabinet minister of Uttarakhand, (forest n environment) Harak Singh Rawat had already disclosed his intention to contest from Pauri Garhwal parliamentary constituency to be vacated by Tirath Singh Rawat, after becoming the state CM.

There are rumours that other lawmakers who had offered their MLAs seats for CM Rawat are also eying on the Pauri Garhwal parliamentary seat earlier held by Tirath Singh Rawat.

The anti incumbency factor in the assembly elections is the main reason as to why these MLAs of BJP are eying on the Pauri Garhwal parliamentary seat with Harak Singh Rawat being the front runner, as he being a Rajput, finds this seat more convenient for triumph being dominated by 70% of this community votes.
