The prompt action of the villagers saved the woman’s life, but the incident has created an atmosphere of fear in the entire area.
According to reports, 24-year-old Hema Devi, a resident of Bharpur village, had gone to throw cow dung near her house in the morning. A leopard hiding in the bushes suddenly pounced on her. The woman was frightened by the sudden attack and started screaming loudly. Hearing the woman’s cries, villagers working in the nearby fields immediately rushed to the scene. They shouted and threw stones, after which the leopard fled. The woman was terrified after the incident. The villagers took her safely home.
Following the incident, widespread fear has gripped the people of Bharpur village and surrounding areas. Villagers say that leopard activity has been observed around the village for some time, but now, the attack during the day near residential areas has further increased their concerns.
According to locals, the presence of leopards is often felt around the village in the morning and evening.
Women are afraid to go to the forest to collect grass and wood, while farmers are avoiding going into the fields alone. Parents are also worried about sending their children to school.
Villagers have demanded that the Forest Department increase patrolling in the area and take effective action to capture the leopard. They say that if timely action is not taken, a major tragedy cannot be ruled out.
