In view of the call given by the Janata Party for a massive demonstration at Jantar Mantar on 10th October demanding resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, immediate stop to the Special Intensive Revision and other demands, the Delhi Police has made elaborate security arrangements in the national capital and imposed prohibitory orders in the entire New Delhi district. According to police sources, prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita have been enforced from Thursday evening till Friday night, under which assembly of five or more persons, taking out marches, carrying lathis, banners and placards without permission and raising slogans in and around Jantar Mantar, Parliament Street, Janpath, Connaught Place and adjoining areas has been prohibited. On the request of Delhi Police, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has announced closure and regulated entry-exit at 57 metro stations from this evening to prevent large mobilization of people towards Lutyens Delhi, under which prominent stations like Central Secretariat, Patel Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, Barakhamba Road, Janpath, Udyog Bhawan, Lok Kalyan Marg, Khan Market, Supreme Court, ITO and Delhi Gate on Yellow, Violet and Blue lines will either remain closed or trains will not halt there, though metro services on other corridors will continue normally. More than five thousand personnel including twenty companies of Central Armed Police Forces, Delhi Armed Police and district police have been deployed with multi-layer barricading at all entry points to Jantar Mantar, Sansad Marg, Ashoka Road, Tolstoy Marg and Janpath along with anti-riot vehicles, water cannons and tear gas squads kept on standby, while drone surveillance and videography of the entire area will be done and intensive checking has been started at Singhu, Tikri, Ghazipur, Faridabad and Gurugram borders where buses and vehicles coming from outside are being checked. Traffic police has also issued an advisory stating that Sansad Marg, Janpath, Outer Circle of Connaught Place and Kasturba Gandhi Marg will remain heavily congested on 10th October and commuters have been advised to avoid Central Delhi and use alternative routes. Police have appealed to the public to follow traffic advisories, carry valid identity proof if they are residents or working in New Delhi area and cooperate with police personnel during checking, while at the same time warning people not to gather in groups of five or more in the restricted area, not to carry inflammable material, sticks, sharp objects or firecrackers, not to attempt to break barricades or enter the restricted zone without permission, not to park vehicles on roads leading to Jantar Mantar as they will be towed away and not to spread rumours or unverified information on social media regarding the demonstration or metro closure, adding that any violation of prohibitory orders will invite strict legal action under relevant provisions of BNSS and BNS, and the arrangements have been made to maintain law and order and ensure that daily life in Central Delhi is not disrupted.
