A renowned, dedicated, fully committed and determined activist who dedicated major part of his life for separate Uttarakhand movement at the expense of his family, business and self interest Madan Mohan Nautiyal breathed his last at the age of 79 yesterday.

A close companion, confident and trusted lieutenant of the Uttarakhand Gandhi late Indramani Badooni, and colleague of late Jaswant Singh Bisht, Vipin Tripathi, Kashi Singh Airy, Trivendra Singh PANWAR and Diwakhar Bhatt etc and founder n champion of separate Uttarakhand movement Madan Mohan Nautiyal never compromised on principles with the powers that be and never aspired for party tickets or position in power being a thorough gentleman and a man of grit, determination and principles.

A down to earth, affable natured and dynamic movement leader Madan Mohan Nautiyal was a powerful force behind the separate Uttarakhand movement during the nineties that finally resulted in Uttarakhand becoming a separate state.

He has been to several jails several times during the movement and dedicated the major party of his life for separate Uttarakhand movement finally contributing immensely in making it a reality on 9 th November 2000.

His death send shock waves in entire Uttarakhand especially among the movement activists and its leaders of Uttarakhand Kranti Dal.

Madan Mohan Nautiyal was one of the important founders of Uttarakhand Kranti Dal and was actively associated with it as its senior leader and also as its president in between. His passing away is a big loss to the movement activists and those who relentlessly struggled for the separate state cause but couldn’t achieve the real goals and objectives for which separate Uttarakhand state was actually formed. The MLA from Tehri, Tehri Garhwal Kishore Upadhyay while paying his heartfelt trubutes to late Nautiyal said : With the demise of Shri Madan Mohan Nautiyal, the pioneer of the Uttarakhand State Movement, Uttarakhand has lost a great well-wisher. Shri Nautiyal was selflessly devoted to the concerns of the state.

He was a victim of police brutality many times during the movement, his great wish was that a museum related to the state movement should be built so that the memories of the movement could serve as a guide for the coming generations.

Establishment of the museum will be a true tribute to him said Kishore Upadhyay.

Om Shanti
