SBI chairman submits affidavit with all detailed records of electoral bonds to SC as directed by Supreme Court’s five judge bench led by CJI D.Y. Chandrachud

As directed by the five judge bench of Supreme Court two days ago to submit the entire details of the Electoral Bonds purchased by various political parties and subsequent submission of an Affidavit in this regard, the chairman of SBI Dinesh Kumar Khara has dutifully submitted an affidavit in the Supreme Court mentioning about the 22217 Bonds purchased during the period with effect from 1 st April 2019 till 15 th February 2022.

It may be recalled that the five judge bench of Supreme Court led by the chief justice of India D.Y.Chabdrachud in a hearing two days ago had expressed its displeasure when the SBI had asked for time till 30 th June scolding them asking what have they done during the last 29 days.

It specifically directed the SBI chairman to personally submit the entire details in an affidavit to the court latest by the evening the other day failing which he ready to confront the contempt proceedings.

The SBI chairman has said that they have provided all the necessary information about 22217 bonds purchased by various political parties and submitted the same to the ECI ( Election Commission of India) to be fed in their website.

He also disclosed that in addition to this the SBI has also given the entire details with names about the political parties and individuals who have bought the bonds and for which party, with specific dates etc.

The SBI disclosed that during the above specified period from 1 st April 2022 to 15 February 2024 , 22217 bonds were purchased from various political parties out of which 22,030 BONDS were encashed. From 12 th April 2019, to 15 February 2024 about 18,871 binds were purchased and 20421 were got cashed. In addition 1 April, 2019 to 11 April 2019, 3,346 more Bonds were purchased. About 1909 bonds were got cashed out of these 3,346 bonds. It said that from April , 2019 to 15 February, 2024 the entire details about the bonds purchased and cashed have been duly submitted to Election Commission of India. The details also contains the names of individuals who bought the bonds, the dates and details of cashing the bonds etc have also been submitted to ECI.

The supreme Court had after hearing the petition filed by the Association of Democratic Reforms etc given a historic judgement on 15 th February by revoking them saying that the electoral bonds scheme is unconstitutional and that the SBI should furnish an affidavit and entire details of the electoral bonds with names, dates and other technical things within a day next evening , further submitting them to Election Commission of India in order to post them in ECI website to be available to the countrymen to maintain transparency .
