Our tributes to the great patriot, revolutionary freedom fighter Shaheed Sardar Udham Singh 🇮🇳 on his 86th Martyrdom Day (31 July 1940)
His supreme sacrifices and patriotism will continue to inspire generations.
On 10 April 1919,a number of local leaders allied to the Indian National Congress including Satyapal and Saifuddin Kitchlew were arrested under the Rowlatt AcBritish soldiers fired on the protesting crowd. Many Europeans owned banks attacked and several Britishers attacked in the streets.
Udham Singh 🇮🇳 was deeply affected by the natorious Jallianwala Bagh massacre took place,on 13, April 1919,. the British troops fired on unarmed Indian people , killing thousands who had gathered to celebrate the festival of Baisakhi,
Young Udham Singh🇮🇳 was himself present there, and he so desired for revenge against the British colonial rule.
Sardar Udham Singh🇮🇳became involved in revolutionary activities and was deeply influenced by Bhagat Singh and his revolutionary group.
In 1924,Sardar Udham Singh became involved with the Ghadar Party,organising Indians overseas towards overthrowing colonial rule.
In 1927, Sardar Udham Singh returned to India on oder from Bhagat Singh.Bringing 25 revolutionaries overseas Indians and as well as smuggled revolvers and ammunition and copies of prohibited Ghadar Party papers caught and were confiscated..He was prosecuted and sentenced to five years in prison. Upon his release from prison in 1931, Sardar Udham Singh’s 🇮🇳 movements were under constant surveillance by the Punjab Police.He made his way to Kashmir and escaped to Germany in 1934, he reached London, where he found employment.
He had to move from one country to another and spend about 21 years to meet face to face Sir Michael O’Dwyer,the then Governor of Punjab.At the Caxton Hall in London-on 13 March,1940, he shot and killed Michael O’Dwyer.
Unafraid of death,Sardar Udham Singh 🇮🇳 admitted the killing,kissed the gallows and died with a smile on his face when hanged in London on 31 July,1940, at Pentonville Prison in London

He sacrificed his life to avenge the innocent lives lost in Jallianwala Bagh massacre.
His heroism and legacy continues to inspire generations, symbolizing resistance against Colonial rule and the fight for justice and equality.
