Possibility of heavy landslides in four districts of Garhwal, Uttarakhand on 7 & 8 July. Red Alert Warning issued

The massive rainfall and subsequent landslides in Uttarakhand have really created Havoc with the lives of the tourists, pilgrims and of course residents in quandary.

There are jams, boulders falling down on running cars, large trees falling down, roads full of silt and pot holes, fatal accidents occurring, incidents of unpredictable cloudburst taking place, bridges and roads being damaged and lands caving in several places with houses losing their foundations and falling like a pack of cards and roads completely jamming due to landslides.

Meanwhile, the Indian meteorological department in Uttarakhand has issued fresh dangerous warning on 6 th July , unambiguously cautioning of potential landslides at several locations in Garhwal Uttarakhand viz. Chamoli, Ukhimath, Rudraprayag, Ukhimath, Ghanshyali, Narendra Nagar, Dhanaulti, Dunda and Chinyalisaud etc.

The high alert issued by the State Emergency Operations Centre following a forecast by the Indian Meteorological Department ( IMD) and Geological Survey of India regarding landslide warning in four districts Tehri, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag and Chamoli has infact badly perturbed the local administration as well as the populace of the local areas including the surrounding areas as consequences of such ecological disasters are highly destructive and damaging.

These warnings are for the 7th and 8th of July precisely.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department there will be heavy to very heavy rainfall in these four earmarked districts of Garhwal, Uttarakhand significantly increasing the danger of slope failures and roads blockages maining highways on which the traffic usually is tremendous.

As a result the state administration has directed its entire machinery and district magistrates , senior police officers , the health department and SDRF etc to remain ready in vigilant mode and maintain high alert across all administrative levels including directions given to all nodal officers to remain on high alert mode.

According to the NDTV news Agencies have been asked to immediately clear any blocked motorways, be it the national highway, Pradhanmantri Gramin Sadak or any other road. Local officials, including revenue inspectors, village development officers, and gram panchayat officers, are required to stay stationed in their respective areas. Police stations and outposts have been directed to remain equipped with disaster response tools and wireless communication systems.

Officers have been advised to carry essential gear such as raincoats, torches, helmets, and emergency supplies in their vehicles. The government officers and staff will not switch off their mobile phones during the above period.

Arrangements for food and medical aid must be ensured in case of stranded individuals. To safeguard schoolchildren, special caution is advised in educational institutions. Tourist movement in high Himalayan regions is to be restricted during the warning period, and both vehicular and pedestrian travel must be halted during intense rainfall.

District information officers have been instructed to disseminate this warning widely through print and visual media, urging the public to avoid unnecessary travel.
