Participation of WANGAI in MEWA India 2024: Signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between ChileNut and WANGAI

WANGAI have participated in MEWA INDIA 2024 organised by Nuts And Dry Fruits Council (INDIA) during 16-17 at Yashobhumi, Sector-25, Dwarika, New Delhi.

The objective of the MEWA INDIA 2024 is to analyze with relevant traders and marketers of Indian and Chilean walnut and other nuts, the potential of the Indian market for exporters of Chilean walnut and other nuts, identifying and responding to their challenges and opportunities.

It was an excellent event with trade show, panel discussions of important nuts i.e. walnut, almond, pistachios, cashews, raisins, macadamia, pecans and almost covering all nuts and prunes.

There were all the important companies associated in nut business from Chile, Australia, USA, Turkey etc. The event was aimed at Indian importers and major exporters, and featured panellists such as Mr Robert Verloop, the President and CEO of California Walnut Commission, Sacramento Valley, Australia Almond Board, Marquis Macadamia, ChileNuts and Tata Consumer Products and Reliance Food from among Indian panellists.
On February 16, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between WANGAI and ChileNut in the presence of the Ambassador of Chile Mr Juan Angulo and Mrs Marcela Zuniga Director of the ProChile. Mr. Gunjan Jain, President of Walnut And Other Nut Fruit Growers Association of India (WANGAI) and Mr Pedro Monti, General Manager of The Chilean Association of Walnut Growers and Exporters (ChileNut) have signed the MoU.
Through this MoU, both the associations formalize the bases for joint collaborative work in order to facilitate technology transfer, commercial and business exchanges and in general promote a better business culture between both countries.
The objective of the MoU is to work for the mutual benefit of walnut trade and development in the both the countries. WANGAI will get support and cooperation for the latest walnut production technology, plant protection, quality grafted walnut plants, grafting technology for rejuvenation of old walnut trees and new walnut plantation.

The key features of this MoU, one side is the import of high-quality Chilean walnuts, availability in off season at the time of traditional festivals with the freshness and light color in the growing Indian nut market. Other side this MoU and joint collaborative work in India will reflects and support in the continuous discussions for reduction in tariff (custom duty).

Mr. Juan Angulo the Ambassador of Chile told that this MoU is another step in the deepening and extension of business relations and is expected to facilitate mutual knowledge and business culture between both the walnut associations in India and Chile.

Other participants were Mr Alvaro Jiminez Seminario, former President of Chilean walnut growers Association, Mr Joaquin Tagle from South 365, Chile. Dr. Navin Nainwal, Vice President of Walnut And Other Nut Fruit Growers Association of India (WANGAI) was also present and coordinated for signing of the MoU. The Chilean Embassy in India, several walnut and other nut fruit companies i.e. MELIFEN FROM THE FARAWAY SOUTH, Chile, baika fruit, Chile, TERRAIDA-Roots from the Valley, South 365, Chile were present during signing of the MoU.
