Maneaters roaming around freely near human habitats in Garhwal, Uttarakhand. One witnessed in Gurdari, Pauri Garhwal

The maneaters dreaded leopards and tigers are very commonly seen near human habitats even touching the walls of houses in prowl for human flesh in view of increasing construction activities in jungles or near the forests. After the massive migration from villages and gradual disappearance of domestic pets including deaths of animals in forests during summer fires in the Uttarakhand hills, the carnivorous animals / predators / maneaters have been freely roaming in towns, near human habitats on road sides in the interiors , in villages and sometimes even entering houses attacking children, women and senior citizens by dragging them to the jungles from house compounds and then making them their easy prey. In the recent past several children, even women were dragged from the house compounds and killed brutally by maneaters and about nine women injured in Kirtinagar block, finally killed by forest guards after eight hours of incessant efforts in Devprayag, Kirtinagar belt near Srinagar. In Pauri Garhwal district the maneaters ( leopards/ tigers) are being spotted very often in Kaljikhal, near Village Dhandri, Timli, Gadoli near Pauri Gaon and at Gurdari near Engineering college just walking rubbing their bodies against the walls of a house. Yesterday a video was shared in social media showing a big cat roaming freely with ease at Ghurdari near the house of one Mr. Sitaram Nautiyal and near a banquet n Green Dham. The video was shot by a local resident and posted in social media. Sounds really shocking and panicking as on the one hand the brutal killings of children, women and senior citizens have become order of the day the forest department is doing nothing to tranquilize these freely roaming leopards/ tigers that later on turn maneaters, to cage them and send to the zoos. A decade ago there weren’t s much casualties by maneaters as are happening these days. The chief minister has shown some seriousness few days ago in the human killings by maneaters but would his intervention really prove to be effective, is anyone’s guess ?
