New Delhi, July 28, 2026: A national workshop on High-Performance Biodigester (HPBD–VIKASA™) technology was successfully organized today at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, under the joint aegis of Daiki Axis India Private Limited and the Defence Research and Development Establishment (DRDE), Gwalior, a laboratory of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
Termed a game changer to revolutionize the recycling of raw and waste/untreated water in India at the decentralized level, the workshop aimed to gather experiences and suggestions from various users and stakeholders and to deliberate on making sanitation and wastewater management more effective through the HPBD technology developed by DRDO. Experts described the project as an invaluable asset to improve the health of the Indian population by enabling the treatment and safe reuse of contaminated water, with a major portion coming under consumptive statistics.

The workshop was attended by Mr. Hiroki Ogami, President and CEO of Daiki Axis Japan; Mr. Ryo Waza, Managing Director of Daiki Axis India; Mr. Kamal Tiwari, Director and CEO; Mr. K.C. Pandey; Mr. Chirag Suthar, Head of R&D; Mr. V.P. Tiwari; and Ms. Neha along with other company officials.
From DRDO–DRDE, Gwalior, Dr. A.K. Goyal and Dr. Vijay Pal along with other scientists were present. Participants also included Dr. N.B. Mazumdar and Mr. Ajay Kumar from Sulabh International; Ms. Sakshi Gudwani and Mr. Vivek Pandey from the Gates Foundation; Colonel Sandeep Saxena from Military Engineering Services (MES) Headquarters; Mr. Manoj Rai, Director from Army Command, Lucknow; Mr. Prashant Meena from the Border Roads Organisation (BRO); and Dr. Rohit Kakkar from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) – CPHEEO.
During the program, Dr. A.K. Goyal, the inventor of HPBD technology, gave a detailed presentation on the working methodology, scientific basis and utility of the technology through a PPT. He explained that this technology has been developed for the effective treatment of human waste and blackwater and can prove to be a significant solution in the field of environmental protection and sanitation.
On this occasion, Mr. Hiroki Ogami, President and CEO of Daiki Axis Japan, announced that HPBD–VIKASA technology will be manufactured at Daiki Axis India’s manufacturing plant in Palwal, Haryana. He informed that in the initial phase, 50 HPBD units will be installed at the Army, defence establishments, railways, public toilets and other critical locations, and independent third-party evaluation of these projects will also be conducted.
He expressed confidence that HPBD–VIKASA technology can prove to be a game changer in the field of sanitation and environmental protection and can become an effective alternative to the conventional septic tank system in the future. The technology effectively treats high BOD and high COD present in blackwater or toilet waste and enables the recycling and reuse of treated water. It is also capable of meeting the standards prescribed by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and the National Green Tribunal (NGT).
HPBD–VIKASA is highly useful for the treatment of human waste or blackwater in areas not connected to a sewerage network including rural and urban areas, residential colonies and apartment complexes, schools, colleges, universities and institutional campuses, government offices and public buildings, defence establishments and border outposts, tourist places and pilgrimage sites, industrial and construction sites, hospitals and other health institutions, as well as temporary settlements, worker camps and disaster relief camps.
HPBD–VIKASA™ is a sustainable, decentralized and environmentally friendly wastewater treatment solution that treats human waste on-site, reduces pollution of soil, surface water and groundwater, and plays a crucial role in preventing the spread of waterborne diseases. The technology is especially beneficial for areas where a conventional sewerage network is not available or where its construction is not economically and technically viable.
This technology will also support the Swachh Bharat Mission, water conservation, water reuse, decentralized waste management, environmental protection and public health, while contributing significantly to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals such as SDG-3 Good Health and Well-being, SDG-6 Clean Water and Sanitation, SDG-11 Sustainable Cities and Communities, and SDG-13 Climate Action.
The workshop concluded with suggestions from participants, technical discussions and a commitment to cooperate for the wider implementation of HPBD–VIKASA™ technology in the future. All experts described this technology as an important and transformative initiative for sanitation, environmental protection and sustainable wastewater management in India.
