Iconic, king of magical voice Ameen Sayani breathes his last at the age of 91

The iconic magical voice of Radio who ruled the hearts of millions of Indians, in the country and abroad across spectrum and exceptional presenter with golden voice Amin Sayani today breathed his last at the age of 91.

Legendary radio presenter Amin Sayani was the heart throb of millions for several decades whose Radio programme “Geet Mala” was extremely popular as his millions of admirers used to curiously wait for it and entertain themselves hearing his magical voice. Then came Television and gradually, though after long time he was out of sight and out of mind.

Initially, having the heartiest desire to be a singer in Radio and Bollywood , Amin Sayani became a broadcaster and soon his magical voice impressed one and all with people remaining glued to Radios to hear his voice and popular programmes like Geet Mala.

Born in 1932 in Mumbai, then Bombay in a multilingual family iconic Amin Sayani started his career as a radio presenter from All India Radio. He was introduced to All India Radio by his brother Hamid Sayani. A thorough gentleman Amin Sayani was the king of magical voice that ruled the hearts of millions and millions of the people for several decades, becoming a household name, loved and adored by one and all.

He was the part of the English programme for a decade or so in Radio AIR Mumbai and then taking the Hindi field into consideration after independence.

His voice as a presenter in Hindi became extremely hit and loveable voice of AIR programme lovers.

The real introduction and popularity chapter of Amin Sayani actually commenced in 1952 when an officer of an advertisement company was planning to host an interesting programme of Hindi film songs’ series in Srilanka’s Radio ( Ceylone).

This advertisement company was making an advertisement for a toothpaste company then known as BINACA which was also in the production of other products.

According to Aaj Tak, then Hamid Sayani was also broadcasting his interesting programme of English songs in Radio Ceylone. As a result keeping in view the tremendous demand for Hindi film songs, the above advertisement company thought of making a Hindi songs’ programme titled as “BINACA Geet Mala” with AMIN SAYANI as its presenter who became a great hit with people of Hindi speaking belt of the country loving it to the core.

Unfortunately on Tuesday this great icon passed away at the age of 91 suffering from cardiac arrest.

According to Indian Express in 2014 , at the age of 81 when Ameen Sayani was hosting a show called ” SITARON KI JAWANIYAN”, Sayani narrated how he missed the chance to audition Bachchan who went on to become the Shehenshah of Hindi cinema later in, never to look back again.

It was only after the release of Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s 1991 film ” Anand”, that he came to know that the man whose voice he loved in the film is the same man who had come to him with the dream to become the radio presenter several times whom he refused to meet him earlier when Amitabh was not popular.
