Former Governor Satyapal Malik passes away at RML hospital

Seventy nine years old the former vociferous Governor of Jammu Kashmir, Goa and Meghalaya Satyapal Malik has passed away in Ram Manohar Lohia hospital today after prolonged illness with his both the kidneys becoming non functional, being on dialysis. For J& K having been admitted on May 11, 2025.
The RML hospital where he breathed his last on Tuesday said that the former governor was suffering from several health complications like morbid obesity, history of diabetic ailment including his kidneys becoming non functional at the later stage, hipertension and not sleeping well called obstructive sleep apnea. According to the statement issued by the hosptal authorities after confirming his death the medical bulletin states that it is with deep regret that we confirm the death of Shri.Satyapal Malik who had been receiving intensive care at our facility. He was admitted with us on 11 th July ,2025 woth a urinary tract infection and subsequently developed refractory Septic shock secondary to urinary tract infection and subsequently developed refractory Septic shock, secondary to the urinary tract infection, hospital acquired pneumonia and multi organ dysfunction the hospital authorities said in their statement. It may be recalled that a political disciple of the former Lok Dal founder and former PM Choudhary Charan Singh , for former Rajya Sabha MP and former MLA during 1970 and 1980 ,Malik joined Congress in 1984 and then sent to Rajya Sabha again. He then joined BJL and was appointed as the governor of J and K amc thereafter governor of Goa and Meghalaya. While he was governor of J and K the article 370 was abrogated.
During his governorship he developed tremendous differences with prime minister Narendra Modi and BJP leadership on the farmers issue who were on agitation for several months meeting PM urging him to implement the farmers demands.
He till his death have been criticizing the BJP leadership as anti farmers. He also levelled serious charges of corruption against few corporates for trying to bribe him to clear their projects in Jammu And Kashmir.
The Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi while expressing his grief over the sad demise of former governor Mr.Malik posted on X :
I am deeply saddened to hear the news of the demise of former Governor Satyapal Malik ji.
I will always remember him as a person who spoke the truth without fear till the last moment and kept talking about the interests of the people.
I express my heartfelt condolences to his family, supporters and well-wishers.
