Congress delegation to meet president Ram Nath Kovind on Wednesday on Lakhimpur Khiri tragedy
The immense political heat on Lakhimpur Kheeri tragedy is not ready to cool down with various opposition parties, especially Congress leaving no stone unturned to ensure that due justice is given to the the deceased farmers by bringing all the culprits to justice. Though the Union state minister’s son has been arrested by UP Crime branch and investigations going on at various levels for more arrests and financial compensation given to the bereaved families of the deceased farmers @Rs 45 lakhs including 10 lakhs to those grievously injured including a government job to the next of the king of the deceased, the Congress party is bent upon its demand for the dismissal of the state home minister. On the other hand the already agitating farmers on three farm laws’ withdrawal and fixation of MSP by a new law are holding Mahapanchayats at various levels nationally and protesting to demand the arrests of all the culprits leaving no stone unturned to tighten their belts with future confrontation with the government at the centre and state of UP, where this tragic incident happened. It may be recalled that while four farmers had been allegedly mowed down by a running vehicle allegedly driven by the state minister’s son on 2nd October, and three BJP workers killed too either by alleged beating or gun shots, the matter being under investigation. Even the supreme Court had taken sup motto cognizance of this matter and reprimanded the UP government to arrest the culprits whoever they may be. Meanwhile, the Congress president Rahul Gandhi is meeting the president on Wednesday along with a delegation for which he has been given an appointment reveal the sources. Those who are likely to be included in the delegation to be lead by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi are former union defence minister and senior Congress leader A. K. Antony, former MP n fmr general secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad, Congress leader in Loksabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary, Party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and senior general secretary n organisational incharge K. C. Venugopal. The Congress party had sought a written appointment from the president’s office and they would be meeting him on Wednesday at 11.30 in the morning as per the appointment given to them by the president’s office. The Congress party leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi who had visited Kakhimpur Kheeri, meeting the bereaved familes of the farmers had demanded resignation of the Union state hone minister earlier and stringent punishment to the culprits. This meeting with president Ram Nath Kovind is primarily on Lakhimpur Khuri incident where the delegation may hand over a memorandum to him after deliberations on this sensitive issue.
