Mumbai, 24 September 2026 – Veteran Bollywood actor Mushtaq Khan, a familiar face in Hindi cinema for over three decades, passed away on Thursday evening, September 24, at Mumbai’s Nanavati Hospital. He was 56.
He had been admitted for the past 15 days and was in the ICU. His business partner Shivam confirmed that he had been battling lung cancer. He was first diagnosed 5 years ago and had recovered, but the cancer relapsed 8 days ago and reached the last stage.
Khan appeared in over 300 films including Aashiqui, Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke, Hera Pheri, Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, Welcome, Stree and Gadar 2. His role as Ballu in Welcome with the iconic dialogue “Meri ek taang nakli hai, main hockey ka bahut bada khiladi tha” remains memorable and etched in the memory of moviegoers.
Known for his impeccable comic timing and versatility, Mushtaq Khan had carved a niche for himself as one of the most dependable character actors in the industry, effortlessly moving between comedy and serious roles.
The last rites of the deceased actor will be held on Friday in Mumbai.
