BJP gets a jolt in Gangotri constituency after its Naugaon Block pramukh n former state minister joins Congress today

The Bhartiya Janata Party got a huge jolt in Gangotri constituency and few other seats of Uttarkashi district when one of its important leader and a block Pramukh joined the Congress party right in the middle of the election campaigning, the polling of which were to held on 14 th February, just three week ahead. The former Navgaon Block Pramukh and a a state ministerial rank holder in Uttarakhand Jagbeer Singh whose speculation joining Congress was on the cards for the last few days joined the Congress party at Dehradun in the presence of the Uttarakhand incharge and secretary of All India Congress Committee Devendra Yadav and other state Congress leaders.

A prominent BJP leader of Gangotri Jagbeer Singh Bhandari had also contested the election of MLA from here in 2012 having lost against Congress. He was today given the membership of Congress party by the Uttarakhand Incharge and secretary Congress party at the centre in the presence of the Congress candidate Deepak Bijalwan, secretary of Uttarakhand Congress n former Nagar Palika president of Gangotri Atul Rawat and other state leaders. In 2017 Gangotri constituency was won by BJP Gopal Singh Rawat defeating Vijay Pal Singh Sajwan of Congress by more than nine thousand votes.

This assembly constituency in primarily the BJP stronghold coming under the jurisdiction of Teri Garhwal MP constituency led by Maharani of Teri Garhwal having won from here in 2019 with more than three lakh votes. The sitting lawmaker Gopal Singh Rawat, of BJP is unfortunately no more. The chief ministerial candidate of AAP Colonel Ajay Kothiyal is contesting from this seat with the contest to be triangular. It is one of the hot seats after Khatima from where Pushkar Dhami is contesting and Lalkuan from where Harish Rawat is the Congress candidate.

  1. BJP will not have an easy move this time. It will have a very tough time from every constituency in Uttarakhand.
    Old guards, have separated for one reason or the other. There seems to be utter confusion in alloting tivkets Garhwal and Kumaon Mundal nominees. Uttarakhand has yet to have a political leadership that may level up the differences between the people of two Mandals.
