In less than five years, business worth Rs 1,759 crore has been recorded in Uttarakhand through film shooting
Dehradun – The natural beauty of Uttarakhand is no longer confined to the silver screen alone, but after the new film policy, the state is emerging as a major film shooting destination within the country. The impact of the state’s film policy and the facilities available for shooting is also visible in the investment figures. This is why in less than five years, business worth Rs 1,759 crore has been recorded in Uttarakhand through film shooting.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami says that the natural beauty and geographical conditions of Uttarakhand are suitable for film shooting. The government’s effort is to promote film production in the state and expand employment and economic activities at the local level. The government is continuously working on simplifying the shooting permission process as well as providing necessary facilities to filmmakers.
The new film policy-2024 implemented to promote film shooting in Uttarakhand has laid the foundation for developing the state beyond a shooting location into a holistic centre for film production. The policy provides for single window system for film shooting, various incentives and subsidies, film awards, training and scholarships as well as post-production facilities. The new film policy focuses on making the shooting process easier for producers while also emphasizing providing opportunities to local talent.
Under the policy, grants are also being given to eligible films. From financial year 2021-22 to 2025-26, 52 films have received grants. These include films made in Hindi as well as Garhwali, Kumaoni, Jaunsari and other languages of Uttarakhand. In 2025-26 alone, 25 films were given grants. While from 2019-20 to 2025-26, more than 1,440 film shootings and NOC related activities have been recorded in the state.
Under the film policy, Uttarakhand Film Awards-2024 and 2025 are also being organized for the first time. Through this, films produced or shot in the state along with films in local dialects and Indian languages, artists, technicians and other creative talents will be honoured. At the national level too, Uttarakhand has already been recognized as a film-friendly state.
