Creta Washed Away in Strong Rain Water Stream in Premnagar, Dehradun; 2 Dead, 1 Rescued

In a heart-wrenching incident amid heavy rainfall in the capital, two persons lost their lives after their Creta car was washed away in a strong seasonal rain stream at Premnagar in Dehradun late last night.
According to SDRF, the incident took place near Lower Kandoli in Premnagar area during late night hours. A Creta car carrying one youth and two girls was crossing a flooded causeway when it was hit by a sudden strong flow of rain water and was swept away about 2 kilometres downstream.
On receiving information, a team of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) rushed to the spot and launched a search and rescue operation throughout the night despite heavy rain and low visibility.
After hours of intense search, SDRF personnel rescued one girl alive in injured condition about 2 kilometres away from the spot where the car was washed away. She was immediately shifted to hospital for treatment.
However, the youth and the other girl could not survive. Their bodies were recovered by the SDRF team after a long operation and have been handed over to the local police for identification and further legal formalities.
The deceased are said to be young locals. Their identities are being verified by Premnagar police.
The SDRF has appealed to people not to cross flooded streams, causeways and low-lying areas during heavy rain, especially during night hours, as water level can rise suddenly.
Dehradun and adjoining areas have been receiving heavy to very heavy rainfall for the past two days. The Meteorological Department had issued an Orange Alert for Dehradun and six other districts till 1 AM today. Several seasonal streams are in spate.
