90 kg of Ganja Instead of Patient in Ambulance, Srinagar Police Nabs Driver Big consignment of ganja worth Rs 45 lakh seized, was being brought from Rudraprayag to Srinagar for sale; police probing supply network

Srinagar police has got a major success in Pauri police’s campaign against drugs. During intensive checking early morning, police recovered 90 kg of illegal ganja from an Eco ambulance and arrested the driver. The estimated value of the seized ganja is said to be around Rs 45 lakh. The ambulance used for smuggling has also been seized by the police. The police is now engaged in tracing other people involved in the ganja supply and the entire network.

On the instructions of Senior Superintendent of Police, Pauri, Sarvesh Panwar, a campaign is being run against drug trade in the district. In this sequence, under the supervision of CO Srinagar Tapesh Kumar and under the leadership of SHO Kotwali Srinagar Kuldeep Singh, the police team was checking vehicles near Awas Vikas Ground early Sunday morning.

During this, the police stopped the suspicious-looking Eco ambulance number UK14-PA-0539 and searched it. During the search, 90 kg of ganja was recovered in nine sacks kept inside the ambulance. The police arrested the ambulance driver Ravindra Singh Bisht (45 years), resident of Chauras, PS Kirtinagar, Tehri Garhwal, present resident of Srinagar, from the spot.

During interrogation, the accused told the police that he operates the said ambulance in Srikot. He along with an associate was bringing ganja from Rudraprayag area to Srinagar through the ambulance. As per the plan, the ganja was to be sold here at a higher price. The accused also admitted that he has been involved in drug smuggling in the past as well.

According to the police, a case has been registered against the accused at Kotwali Srinagar under FIR No. 53/2026, Section 8/20/60 NDPS Act. The accused is being produced before the court. Based on police interrogation and available evidence, efforts are being made to trace the persons supplying the ganja and the entire supply chain of smuggling.

Case registered earlier also
According to the police, the criminal history of the arrested accused has also come to light. A case was also registered against him in the year 2015 under Section 60 of the Excise Act.
