Supreme Sacrifice for the Motherland at Just 21 Years of Age

Rohit Singh Rawat, the brave son of Mendu Sindwal village in Ghansali region of Tehri Garhwal district, Uttarakhand, attained martyrdom at the mere age of 21 while serving the nation.

Rohit Rawat was posted with the 20 Garhwal Rifles of the Indian Army and was serving in the Jammu region. While on duty, he made the supreme sacrifice protecting the motherland.

Uttarakhand, known as Veerbhoomi, has lost several of its sons in the line of duty in recent years, continuing its rich military tradition:

1. Kathua Terror Attack – July 8, 2024
Five soldiers from Uttarakhand’s Garhwal Rifles were martyred when terrorists ambushed a patrolling party in Badnota, Kathua, J&K.
The martyrs were:
Naib Subedar Anand Singh Rawat (41) from Rudraprayag
Havaldar Kamal Singh Rawat (28) from Pauri Garhwal
Rifleman Anuj Negi (25) from Pauri Garhwal
-Rifleman Adarsh Negi (26)from Tehri Garhwal
-Naik Vinod Singh Bhandari (33) from Tehri Garhwal
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said “our bravehearts made the supreme sacrifice for their motherland in keeping with the rich military tradition of Uttarakhand” and assured the state stands with their families.

2. Pulwama Encounter – February 2019
Major Vibhuti Shankar Dhoundiyal from Haridwar lost his life in a gunbattle with Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists in Pulwama. He was the second officer from Uttarakhand to be killed in three days. His last rites were performed in Haridwar with full military honours.

CM Dhami and the state government have repeatedly stated that the supreme sacrifices of these soldiers “won’t go to waste” and that the government will provide every possible support to the bereaved families.

The nation continues to bow in respect to all gallant martyrs who made the supreme sacrifice.
