Iconic shooting champion , prestigious Arjuna, Dronacharya and Padam Shree awards recipient Jaspal Rana remembered in New Delhi





The Uttarakhand community and the sports fraternity including the general masses in the national capital today was in immense grief on the sudden demise of the legendary shooter and an eminent personality who brought laurels for the nation by bagging 15 commonwealth Gold medals, nine exclusive Gold medal in Commonwealth Games, 4 Asian Games Gold medals and in all 8 Asian medals with prestigious Arjuna, Dronacharya and Padmashree awards at the hands of the various presidents of India. We are talking about nine other than legendary shooter Jaspal Rana.
They were present in the condolence meeting in Dr. Ambedkar Hall at Janpath attended by the cross section of people comprising of judges, lawyers, journalists, theatre artists, writers, thinkers, literature, sportsmen, near and dear ones , bureaucrats and above all his admirers to the core.
The family members of late Jaspal Rana , his father former Uttarakhand minister and President of Uttarakhand Rifles Association Narayan Singh Rana, wife, daughter and twice an international Gold medalist Dewanshi Rana including Gold medalist in Khelo India in shooting, brother and shooting coach Subhash Rana, Jaspal’s son and Jaspal’s brother in law Rinku were in tears present to pay their final adieu to the legendary shooter who brought name and fame to the nation and finally went for his eternal journey on June 12 at Max hospital after his cardiac arrest.
It may be recalled Jaspal Rana developed serious heart complications in Munich, Germany where he had gone with his entire team of shooters to participate in the international Shooting competition.
He took medicines and came back to India thinking that he is all right but unfortunately while he was in the flight likely to reach the International Palam airport he developed some heart related complications from where he directly got himself admitted to Max hospital, Saket where he was medically examined thoroughly and stent fixed but after three days of constant monitoring Jaspal suffered a severe attack and couldn’t survive unfortunately, sending shock waves all around.
His last rights were performed at Varanasi and the first condolence meeting held in Dehradun attended by the union Defence minister Rajnath Singh , the father in law of Jaspal’s sister who too is a shooter. The husband of Jaspal’s sister Pankaj Singh , MLA and minister in UP was also present at Dehradun condolence meeting.
The Uttarakhand chief minister, the Uttarakhand BJP chief , all the MPs and ministers, MLAs were present on this ocassion including the senior leaders of the Congress party.
In Delhi Ambedkar Bhawan a Bhajan kirtan was organised for the solace of the departed soul and people from the cross section of the society paid their floral tributes to this legendary shooter with tears in their eyes.
The father of the late shooting icon while in tears said that though in Geeta lot is written that the death of a human being is ultimate and the soul never dies but ask a father like him who has lost his son at just an age of 49.
The daughter of Jaspal Rana was literally in tears while expressing her vocal condolences saying that she is blessed to have a father like Jaspal Rana who had instilled in her and the family the invaluable ethics and principles and always put his best to give them his best through out his life. We bow before him and pray to Almighty to give space to him at His pious feet rendering peace to his soul.
The Ambedkar Bhawan was full of capacity and everyone present were in sort of a traumatic mode with pin drop silence all through.
Unaccounted number of eminent persons were present on this occasion but sorry to say that not a single member of parliament from Uttarakhand including a minister has taken pain to come here to pay their respectful tributes to the national pride Jaspal Rana.
There were several judges hailing from Uttarakhand, former ACPs, journalists and writers including lawyers to name a few Judge Prem Barthwal, Judge Vinod Rawat, Judge Amitabh Rawat, Senior Advocate and former secretary High Court Bar Association Sandeep Sharma, social worker Brijmohan Upreti, General Secretary of the Garhwal Hitaishini Sabha Pawan Kumar Maithani, Advocate and deputy advocate general of Uttarakhand Kuldeep Parihar, former ACP Lalit Mohan Negi, former SP Satish Sharma, former ACP Rajendra Singh Bisht, Prem Singh Negi, Municipal Councilor Veer Singh Pawar, Sunil Negi, senior journalist and editor UKnationnews Sunil Negi, CA Rajeshwar Painuly, advocate Dhani Ram Anthwal etc.
The father of Jaspal Rana said that they will form the Jaspal Rana Vichar Manch and shall serve the poor, needy and the have nots and impart training to bidding shooters of Uttarakhand and the country to fulfill the dreams of Jaspal Rana.
