Increasing Crime Rates Against Children in Uttarakhand and the nationwide 2024 NCRB Report

The recently released NCRB 2024 report presents a mixed picture: while it is reassuring to see an overall decline in crime across the country, the sharp rise in crimes against children remains a matter of grave concern. This trend is particularly alarming in Uttarakhand, which recorded a 21% increase in such cases from 2023 to 2024, alongside persistently low charge-sheeting rates. It is hoped that the authorities will take timely corrective measures to strengthen child protection and improve the criminal justice response in our state. This was disclosed by Anoop Nautiyal the founder of SDC, Dehradun.

He added that while we evaluate the latest available nationwide data for 2024, let us remind ourselves & reiterate that crime rates have spiked enormously during the past few months in Uttarakhand. Thus, the 2024 report and its data needs to be seen and evaluated from the right perspective.
