Dhami writes to all MPs and state presidents of all the political parties on Nari Shakti Vandan Act to be introduced in the parliament in April 16

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has taken an important initiative ahead of the upcoming special session on the Nari Shakti Vandan Act, proposed in Parliament on April 16, by sending letters to all the state’s MPs and state presidents of various political parties.

Through this letter, he has called for building a broad consensus on the issue of women’s reservation and ensuring active participation in Parliament.

In his letter, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stated that a special session of Parliament will be held on April 16th to discuss the Nari Shakti Vandan Act. This opportunity represents an important step toward strengthening our democratic values and more effectively involving half of the country’s population in decision-making. Building an inclusive society is possible only when its women are empowered with equal opportunities and assume leadership roles.
Today, the nation’s daughters are showcasing their talent in every field, from space to sports, from the armed forces to start-ups, setting new standards through their hard work and determination. Their increasing participation in public life is a symbol of the positive changes taking place in our society.

The Chief Minister noted that in 2023, MPs from all parties unanimously supported the Nari Shakti Vandan Act, which is a historic achievement of Indian democracy.
Its implementation was discussed in Parliament, and all parties agreed that its provisions should be implemented as soon as possible. Based on suggestions received from experts, constitutional scholars, and political parties, it has become clear that the time has come to implement the Act in its full spirit.
In this context, it has been decided that the 2029 Lok Sabha elections and the upcoming Assembly elections should be held only after the provisions of women’s reservation are fully implemented, which will infuse new energy into democratic institutions and ensure wider participation in the governance system.
In his letter, the Chief Minister said that this step is even more important in the context of Uttarakhand because our state has always followed the socio-cultural tradition of respecting the mother’s power.

In the mountainous regions, women have been the foundation of family, livelihood, and community life, and they continue to shoulder these responsibilities despite difficult geographical conditions. The Nari Shakti Vandan Act will open new opportunities for Uttarakhand’s daughters, who are rapidly advancing in politics, social service, education, entrepreneurship, and public life.

The successful implementation of women’s reservation in Panchayati Raj institutions, municipal bodies, and cooperative institutions in the state has created a strong pipeline of capable women leaders, who are now poised to play their role at the national and state levels. Chief Minister Dhami expressed confidence that increased participation of women in Parliament and Legislative Assemblies will not only strengthen democratic institutions but will also help in understanding and addressing the real needs of society more sensitively.

Urging everyone to strive for broad consensus on this issue, the Chief Minister said that this issue is not about any party or individual, but rather is linked to the honor of the nation’s mothers, sisters, and daughters, and to the secure and empowered future of future generations. The Chief Minister said that together we will make this historic change a reality and provide the nation’s women the respect and opportunities they deserve.
