Bus accident near Dabri in Kandikhal; driver, conductor, and several others injured; major tragedy averted
Srinagar/Tehri. A passenger bus traveling from Uttarkashi to Rishikesh lost control and overturned near Dabri in the Kandikhal area. The driver, conductor, and several passengers were injured in the accident. Fortunately, the bus got stuck on a tree while falling, thus averting a major accident.
According to outpost in-charge Kandikhal Rajendra Singh, the incident occurred on Friday afternoon at around 3:40 pm. Bus number UK14 PA 9953 was going from Uttarkashi to Rishikesh. As soon as the bus reached the Kandikhal Dabri on the Rishikesh-Gangotri National Highway (NH-34), it went out of control and fell about three meters below the road.
Upon receiving information about the incident, KandiKhal police and local residents arrived at the scene and rescued the passengers trapped inside the bus. All the injured were transported to the nearest hospital by 108 ambulance.
It is reported that there were approximately 30 passengers on board the bus. After receiving first aid, the remaining passengers were sent to their destinations in alternative vehicles.
The injured were identified as follows:
Dhan Singh (48 years old), son of Bachan Singh, resident of Maldevta, Dehradun – bus driver
Manoj (35 years old), son of Govind Ram, resident of Gairsain, Chamoli – bus conductor
Sonia (about 25 years old), daughter of Puran Chand, resident of Shiv Nagar, Jammu
According to the police, all the injured are reported to be in good condition and the cause of the accident is under investigation.
