Painful death of a retired Brigadier in broad day light by a stray bullet and earlier 7 murders within the last three months speak of the worrisome Law and order situation of Dehradun

The law and order situation of the Uttarakhand’s capital Dehradun and its adjoining township Rishikesh, not to speak of the other districts of Uttarakhand, has deteriorated badly with around nine murders taking place in broad day light in the last three months.
The Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has replaced the previous SSP with the then Haridwar SSP Pramendra Dobal whose track record to control crime and deal with criminals heavily was laudable.
The state of crime and subsequent murders in Dehradun in particular being the state capital has shaken the confidence of the citizens who seem to have been terrified by what has happened today early morning between Dehradun and Mussourie when a retired Brigadier V.K. joshi was killed by a stray bullet in a road rage between two parties with bullets exchange going in full swing and speeding fortuner and other car competing with each other on the roads.
The point is how can the gun totters and criminals or those with suspicious backgrounds gain entry in Uttarakhand and other prominent hill stations and spray bullets in open public glare, shockingly killing a brigadier.
The Gangwar that took place last month and a gangster killed in Dehradun outside the gym has also panicked and shocked the Dehradun law abiding citizens compelling them to either stay indoors or arrange for their own safety themselves.
Seven to Nine murders in just three months in broad day light in Dehradun and one in Rishikesh with the overall rate of annual murders increasing this year from 189 in 2023 to 2018 in 2024 with continued volatility in 2025 n 2026 in Uttarakhand is definitely a symptom of extreme worry and putting the law enforcing agencies on hook.
There are definitely several cases when the Uttarakhand police in various districts including Dehradun have exhibited tremendous dexterity in solving several cases in record time but there are many which are still unresolved and absconders still at large.
The questions being raised is how come that the state capital Dehradun is witnessing open firing and stray bullets killing a retired Brigadier in morning walk or brutal killing of young girls and women in broad daylight including Gangsters living here and then being killed with police not recording their binafides or antecedents ?
The law and order situation seems to be really worrisome and if not controlled in the near future the state and its capital will definitely become a safe haven for criminals who either take refuge here after committing crimes or commit crimes and flee away.
The recent genocidal murder of Divyanshu Jatrana in Dehradun by eleven youths out of which seven are still absconding and the police had to fix Rs 25000 on their heads unambiguously speaks of the non seriousness of the police and subsequent no terror of the law and BNS in the minds and hearts of the criminals.
The elections to the state assembly are due in 2027 and the people are in the state of panic and choas in view of the deteriorating law and order situation.
The police authorities should tighten their belts and instead of harassing/ targetting the You tubers, social organisation political activists, journalists or people who matter should concentrate their energy and efforts to bring the criminals to justice and improve the law and order situation of the state especially Dehradun bringing it under absolute control at the earliest.
