Shortage of LPG hit people across the country, Delhi police cautions against cyber fraud in the name of LPG

There is tremendous shortage of gas cylinders in the country despite the rates increased few days before with the domestic cylinder costs raised by Rs 60 and Commercial cylinder enhanced by rupees 115.

There are reports that hotels in several states are allegedly closed in view of the shortage of Gas cylinders including small Industries and people especially tourists suffering badly.

In certain parts of the country , in states there are long queues of consumers at Gas godowns since morning and in some states there is the waiting of three days.

People in the national capital territory of Delhi too are sufferring in several areas at the Gas distrubution centres in the summers.

The awkward situation of Gas shortage has occured due to the ongoing West Asia conflict adversely affecting the LPG imports.

The Strait of Hormuz which is a crucial shipping route was closed for the entire world countries including India by Iran.

However, the situation may ease now as the Indian foreign minister S. Jaishankar’s multiple diplomatic efforts have borne fruits and the Iranian foreign minister has agreed to allow India to ferry its ships of oil from here on certain acceptable conditions. Even the union mister of Gas and oil Hardeep Puri has assured of no shortage of oil and gas in the country.

As a result of the closure of the hotels and restaurants in view of the shortages of gas in some states the gas rates have gone up to Rs.2200 or more for commercial cylinders and Rs 1200 to 1300 even 1800 for domestic cylinders or even more.

The small industries are also hard hit in view of the shortages of gas.

There are reports that the government has invoked Essential Commodities Act to ensure that the household supply is regularised and also directing the refiners to increase the production of LPG.

The government is also going for alternative options like engaging new international suppliers and new options.

While the government has surged the LPG production by 25% say the latest news in reports in West Bengal, Bengaluru, Mumbai, some parts of Uttarakhand etc the shortage of LPG gas hit people tremendously.

Meanwhile the Delhi police has cautioned people against a new cyber fraud in the name of ordering gas cylinders.

According to the news agency PTI in a post on X, the police said rumours about a shortage of LPG cylinders were being used by cyber criminals to lure unsuspecting users through fraudulent links and phone calls.

The advisory was accompanied by a short awareness video that explains how scammers generate panic and persuade people to click on links related to gas booking or supply confirmation.

“Once users interact with such links, their personal or banking details may be compromised, leading to financial losses,” a senior police officer said.

The officer added that rumours of LPG shortage are being used as bait by cyber fraudsters. Do not click on unknown links and report any suspicious activity immediately.
