Renowned comic actor Rajpal Yadav surrenders at Tihar prisons, Delhi in a cheque bounce case worth Rs several crores

On the directions of the Delhi High Court after it turned down the plea of the counsel of renowned comic actor Rajpal Yadav to give him more days of relief, the latter surrendered at the Tihar prisons authorities. The actor is facing the accusations of cheque bounce case worth Rs eight crores. The matter involves the petition filed by the M/S Murali Projects Private Limited against the renowned comic actor and his wife in connection with several bounced cheques which they didn’t pay at the stipulated time. The actor and his wife were convicted in the year 2018 by the magistrate court and sentenced to six months imprisonment which was upheld by the sessions court in 2019 after the actor approached the higher court for relief. This led the actor to go further for relief in the Delhi High Court. In 2024 after several hearings the actor got a temporary relief when the Delhi High Court gave him an opportunity to arrive at an amicable settlement taking to the lending party and settling the matter satisfactorily. On Wednesday the actor further asked for more deadlines with his advocate pleading that he has arranged Rs. Fifty lakhs. Irked by this the Court however,refused to grant him further relief saying that he should surrender on February 2nd. Refusing to give further extention and passing order for surrender on February 2nd the court said : this Court cannot be expected to show or create special circumstances for any person merely because such a person belongs to a particular background or industry. Leniency, though sometimes necessary, cannot be extended endlessly, especially when it is met with continued non-compliance,” said the court.
