Kanhaiya Kumar joins Congress but Jignesh Mewani didn’t due to technical reason of losing the membership of Gujarat assembly being an independent lawmaker

Today it was a big and happiest day for Congress said its senior general secretary Venugopal terming the entry of two young leaders in Congress viz Kanhaiya Kumar of Communist Party of India as a symbol of struggle against those whose scuttle the voice of free expression representing fascist forces as a significant day.

Both these popular youth leaders were present at AICC with only former JNUSU president and earlier in CPI Kanhaiya Kumar joining Congress while independent lawmaker and important dalit leader of Gujarat Jignesh Kumar could not join it, though he pledged publicly in front of media that he will join it in the next elections and contest on Congress party ticket for sure.

Jignesh Mewani while giving the clarification sitting next to Kanhaiya Kumar catagorically said that there is purely a technical glitch behind his decision not to join Congress now as he will lose his membership having won as an independent lawmaker.

He said that he has spoken in person to former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi and was given a green signal not to join Congress now and serve his constituency’s electorates, without losing the membership. Both Kanhaiya Kumar and Jignesh Mewani met Congress leader Rahul Gandhi at AICC headquarter and presented him a copy of Indian Constitution and pictures of Gandhi, Bhagat Singh and Dr. Ambedkar. While Kanhaiya Kumar filled the form joining Congress in front of Rahul Gandhi, Jignesh explained his technical compulsion and got a green signal from Rahul to continue his membership though Jignesh assured of his ideological commitment to Congress party.

A jam-packed AICC Hall with media men and workers of both Kanhaiya Kumar and Jigwani occupying seats and some journalists even standing outside the Hall due to tremendous rush, the meeting was moderated by the Congress general secretary and chief spokesman Randeep Singh Surjewala.

The senior party general secretary Venugopal and AICC treasurer Pawan Bansal and Bihar incharge Bhakta Charan Das welcomed both the youth leaders by presenting them bouquets and putting Congress tricolour around their necks amid cheers and clapping.

Both Kanhaiya Kumar and Jignesh Mewani expressing their faith in Congress party and its leadership, lauding it as the oldest party of the nation which sought independence from the British colonial rule praising the invaluable contribution of father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi, Shaheed E Azam Bhagat Singh, Jawaharlal Nehru, Dr. B. R Ambedkar etc through incessant struggle ensuring an independent socialist, democratic and Republican India.

While criticizing the present political dispensation representing fascist and communal tendencies Kanhaiya Kumar said that if you want to save India, you will have to save the Congress party at all costs and we will go to entire country to strengthen the party at the grassroots mobilising the youths nationally.

Similarly, independent lawmaker from Gujarat Jignesh Mewani deplored the ruling party for creating divisions in the people’s mindset urging the youths and Dalits of the country to stand behind Congress party and vigorously fight the fundamentalist, communal and divisive forces unitedly and strongly.

Jignesh assured that though technically he is not joining Congress party today being an independent lawmaker from Gujarat apprehensive of losing the membership in Gujarat assembly but he assured n pledged that he will be contesting the next election on Congress ticket and work for the party with Hardhik Patel, Kanhaiya Kumar n other Congress leaders under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership more vigorously to defeat fascist forces tooth and nail.

According to ANI tweet Jignesh Mewani said : I could not join the Congress formally due to technical reasons. I am an independent MLA, If I join a party, I may not continue as an MLA…. I am part of the Congress ideologically, will fight the upcoming Gujarat polls from Congress symbol said Jignesh Mewani, MLA from Gujarat.
