18 child labourers rescued from hotels, factories, and chemical units in Govindpuri and Okhla Industrial Phase-I on December 23 by Prayas Juvenile Aid Centre (JAC Society)

The rescue operation was led by the SDM, Kalkaji, and jointly conducted by the Delhi Police, Labour Department, and the Prayas team.

18 child labourers were rescued from hotels, factories, and chemical units in Govindpuri and Okhla Industrial Phase-I on December 23.
Prayas Juvenile Aid Centre (JAC Society) in close coordination with the District Administration and concerned government departments, successfully conducted the rescue operation.

The rescue operation was led by the SDM, Kalkaji, and jointly conducted by the Delhi Police, Labour Department, and the Prayas team.

The teams carried out searches in factories, hotels, restaurants, and chemical units during the operation from where they were rescued.

“The children were engaged in work for approximately 12 hours a day and were being paid salaries ranging from ₹5,000 to ₹8,000. All the children were safely rescued during the operation and have been sent to CCIS for their care and protection. Nine shops were sealed on the spot by the official of SDM Kalkaji” says Mukesh Kumar Sr. Manager, Prayas.

18 children aged between 12 and 17 years were identified as minors. As per the orders of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), all 18 rescued children were shifted to Child Care Institutions (CCIs) for care, protection, and rehabilitation.

Sources close to the rescue operation reveal, “the authorities have informed that compensation for wage labour and bonded labour, wherever applicable, will be provided in accordance with existing laws. Efforts are also underway to identify the home states of the rescued children, following which coordination will be established with the respective State Child Protection Units (DCPU) and CWCs to ensure continued follow-up, rehabilitation, and reintegration after their transfer.”
