Yet another attack on a person in Village Bhatkot, Kumaon, Uttarakhand . People completely insecure and in excessive panic

Today’s maneater leopard attack in Chaukhutia and yesterday’s bear attack has created panic in the area of Kumaon division in Uttarakhand. There have already been several maneater and wild bear attacks in Garhwal division of Uttarakhand with nearly thirty five people injured in a month and four human kills by these carnivores.

Another tragic incident occurred in the area today: Chandan Ram, son of the late Shri Bachiram, was attacked by a leopard last night in Bhatkot, Chaukhutia.

The attack took place in Sangelaji’s building near the Lisa Depot. Chandan Ram, who had come out at night after hearing a dog bark, was suddenly attacked by a leopard and dragged up to some distance.

Then when the people around raised an alarm, the leopard left him and ran away. His head was badly torn and he had to get thirty-five stitches. There were nail marks on his back also. Currently, Chandan Ram ‘s condition is said to be out of danger.

The Uttarakhand government should become proactive to save the lives of the insecure Uttarakhand residents who have even stopped sending their children to schools feeling completely apprehensive of Maneater attacks on children. This is for the first time that massive number of maneaters have killed human beings and wild life injuring several women with two dead brutally.
