CM holds high level meeting and issues directives to identify places sensitive to avalanches, disasters and landslides in the Uttarakhand mountainous region

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami today gave instructions to the officials regarding disaster management and security in the state during a high-level meeting at the Chief Minister’s residence.

The Chief Minister said that places sensitive to landslides, avalanches and other natural disasters in the mountainous regions of the state should be immediately identified so that caution can be taken before the potential danger arises.

The Chief Minister gave clear instructions that no new settlement or new construction work will be allowed at these identified sensitive sites.

The Chief Minister said that any kind of government or private construction work will be prohibited on the natural water sources and the banks of rivers and drains of the state.

For this, clear guidelines should be issued to all District Magistrates and their implementation should be regularly monitored.

He warned that strict disciplinary action would be taken against officials who violate these instructions.

The Chief Minister said that priority should be given to preventive measures to avoid disaster and concrete and effective steps should be taken in sensitive areas keeping in mind public interest.

Principal Secretary Mr. R.K. Sudhanshu, Mr. R. Meenakshi Sundaram, Secretary Mr. Shailesh Bagauli, Additional Director General of Police Mr. A.P. Anshuman, Special Secretary Dr. Parag Madhukar Dhakate and Additional Secretary Mr. Banshidhar Tiwari were present in the meeting.

Kindly recall that on 5 th August, 2025 a black chapter of destruction was written in Dharali and Harshil Uttarkashi when at 1.45 PM huge ravishing flash floods due to the the massive cloud bursts and bursting of lakes at 6,700 feet above including cracking of glaciers resulted in massive destruction with about 66 people missing and till now seven dead. The missing persons include several Nepalese, locals, from Bihar, youths, children and women.

The NDRF, SDRF , ITBP, Indian Army, local police etc are all busy in the relief works at Dharali supplying food item, water bottles and medicines etc.

The chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has announced initial financial support of Rs. Five lakhs to every family who have lost their houses and business establishments etc.

He has also assured that those who lost their houses etc will be given financial compensation on the basis of previous compensation given during the earlier ecological disasters.

The Uttarakhand chief minister himself had been to the doctor saster affected areas of Dharali and Harshil and according to the sources about 1200 people have been rescued so far and ge NDRF and Army jawans are busy digging the area to retrieve the dead bodies buried underneath the debris.

According to various reports about forty to fifty feet debris/ silt has been scattered above the buildings that include houses, hotels and shops.
