Uttarakhai singer Pawan Semwal threatened, Uttarakhand Kranti Dal demands registration of case

Dehradun, 21 July 2025: After a controversial song by Uttarakhand folk singer Pawan Semwal, now a case regarding death threat given to him by a woman has come to light.

The complaint by the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal leaders and activists have sought registration of a case under sections 351(3), 352, and 353 of the Indian Penal Code from the police authorities.

A complaint was lodged at the Patel Nagar police station after a woman openly threatened to “slit the throat” of Semwal in front of the media.A delegation of UKD demanded immediate registration of FIR against the woman threatening to kill Semwal in a statement in front of the camera.

Semwal’s song, which allegedly contained remarks against women, caused tremendous controversy resulting in police detaining him twice, and taking down the song from the YouTube.

Dev Chand Uttarakhandi, the complainant, central general secretary of Uttarakhand Kranti Dal said that the woman, who already has 28 cases registered against her, has a criminal attitude and has no fear of the law. The complainant warned that if anything untoward happens to Semwal, the woman and the administration will be responsible.

This incident is being condemned on social media. People are calling it an attack on freedom of expression. The general public and the UKD are demanding immediate action against the woman.

Meenakshi Ghildiyal, Naina Lakhera, Usha Ramola, B L Jagudi, Dev Chandra Uttarakhandi, D Rawat and USF Vice President Chiranjeev and others were present on the occasion while delivering their written complaint to the Police .
