When Arvind Kejriwal was the Delhi chief minister during his ten year’s tenure he was the centre of tremendous criticism, ridicule and being labelled as corrupt for spending exorbitantly in the interior and exterior decoration of his bungalow terming it as a Sheesh Mahal.
There were several protest demonstrations by the then BJP which was in the negligible opposition in Delhi assembly , almost daily accusing the then Delhi CM Kejrival for vulgar ostentation spending exorbitantly on his Sheesh Mahal.
In fact this issue was the main election plank of the saffron party in Delhi elections which led BJP to landslide victory after a protracted wait of 27 years.
The AAP had to bite the dust on the Sheesh Mahal issue.
Now the BJP is in power in Delhi and the Delhi chief minister’s bungalow is in the news.
Rekha Gupta , the Delhi CM was herself very vociferous on this issue accusing the then Delhi CM of wasting exorbitant public exchequer’s money to beautify his Sheesh Mahal leading the life of a Shahanshah.
The Delhi CM Rekha Gupta has been allotted the Bungalow number 1 and 2 Raj Niwas by the Public Works department and according to the detailed list of the expenditure involved in its decorations and fitting of various electronics gadgets in these bungalows Rs. 60 lakhs are being spent.
According to the news reports the five coloured latest modern television sets are to be fitted in various rooms costing Rs.9.30 lakhs , the air conditioners to be fitted in various rooms are in 14 numbers costing Rs. Eight lakhs.
In addition to this 14 CCTV cameras are being installed in these bungalows costing Rs.5.74 lakhs, with the Power back up equipments worth Rs. 2 lakhs.
The remote control fans in various rooms are to cost Rs. 1.80 lakhs and six geisers costing Rs. 91 thousand.
The washing machine to be fitted in the CM’s Bungalow will cost Rs. 77 thousand with 125 lights units costing Rs. 6 lakhs.
Apart from these expenses there is lot more being spent on the chandeliers and other important items in these bungalows , the cumulative expenditure of which is coming to Rs. 70 lakhs in all.
The Hindustan Times report further noted that lighting fixtures, including 115 sets of lamps and decorative elements like brass and glass lanterns, will be installed. The tender document described one of the lantern wall lights as “the epitome of timeless elegance,” crafted with “classic brass” and “delicate glass panels.”.
In a tweet in hindi reacting to the Rs. 60 lakhs being spent on the renovation of Delhi CM’s Bungalow the AAP wrote in hindi : on the one hand the Delhites are confronting various problems. They are troubled by the useless policies of the Delhi government. The public is troublesome to save their house and employment. The Delhites are in problems due to hike in school fees, power cuts, shortage of drinking water, the increasing crime in Delhi, and inflation, unemployment.
The CM is busy renovating her Maya Mahal spending crores of Rupees.In her Maya Mahal the ACs, Chandeliers, TV sets,and lights worth lakhs of rupees will be fitted. In this expenditure of crores of rupees will be spent said the AAP message in X.
